Why Fred? Why not Nando?...

Not sure why Alonso has that nickname, since his name is NOT Frederico, which would translate to Fred!!

I prefer Fred, Nando just makes me think of really bad food.

I don't like calling him Nando...since Nandos is actually a restaurant chain here which serves damn good chicken and Peri-peri sauces with it.

I think Fonzo suits him well. Or The Fonz. Or Fonzi. Or D!ck Dastardly.

Particularly because they spawned out of a championship winning team.

The 2009 Brawn was a one trick pony, they had nothing other than a fantastic idea that didn't even last them the entire season. They had NO development money and no car penned for 2010 because they didn't know whether or not they'd even be in business. So what Mercedes bought was a slot into the grid and Ross Brawn.

I wouldn't fault Mercedes though for the time to ramp up. It's not as if Ferrari and McLaren are beacons in the sport at the moment either.

Dude...that 'championship' winning team was just a freak of regulations, as WB mentioned, Mercedes bought a team wearing a very impressive mask but that's it.

Redbull took over the defunct Jaguar and started impressing about 4 years down the road, now Mercedes has at least equaled that performance/time frame. Can they continue equaling....time will tell.

I think what happened to BrawnGP was that it was stripped to the bone to carry on operation. Plus it had to develop it's car to the end of the season . It might of been better for Merc if the Brawn team had put some time and energy in to the 2010 car. However it did not have the money or time manpower left to do it.

Yeah, Merc bought a team stripped to the bone of staff, and then limited the funding to an imaginary RRA whilst Red Bull were spending 4 x as much.

Anyway they have now ramped up the budget, and in 1 year of RBR style spending have moved to the front, with 2014 and manufacturer advantage the real target, I would say they are more on track than RBR were

Maybe this should have been done since 2-3 races back. But I guess it's a very fine balance, and Nico has been handling it alright.
