I can spot an Indian driver a mile away...Being a "good Christian Boy" stops me just short of being completely racist...

I don't need a religion to "stop short of being completely racist"...

But it seems sometimes you do need a religion to be completely racist. :D

4 & 8 seems dangerous, in the UK it's 2 and 10

Here's the explanation

That position also helps fighting arm and shoulder fatigue on long trips.

I tried it just now and my elbows were going into my torso... Maybe that's why you don't have roundabouts over there; it also feels like I have less control of the wheel.

In the US we can overtake on the 'inside' legally - helps a lot to avoid all these idiot outside lane huggers.

I don't know whether or not it's illegal up here, in Canada; but, I will pass anyone who isn't keeping up with the speed of traffic, especially on the highway!!

Why? Because oftentimes it's just someone who doesn't know how to drive and needs to make a left in 20km!! They don't know how to pass, so they take the first opportunity to move into the passing lane and then block traffic until they turn!!

I used to live in Calgary and I always had to chuckle when I saw the Trans-Canada Highway degenerate from a 4 lane divided freeway into 16th Avenue N :P

It now becomes Carrville Rd, Rutherford Rd, Castlemore Rd, Bovaird Dr... not sure how far it goes after Brampton!! :wavey:

The point you made about overtaking on the inside lane (it's not undertaking). I used to think this too - people overtaking on the inside used to irritate me. Then one day I thought logically and realised that it should be physically impossible to overtake on the inside. The only reason you are physically able to do that is because somebody, or lots of people are sitting in the middle lane like zombies. The correct way to drive on the motorway is to drive on the inside, move out to the middle, and ultimately the outside lane to overtake until there is a gap on the inside and move back in. If you are able to overtake on the inside, then the car you're overtaking in the middle lane should not be where it is - pure and simple, it should have already been in the inside lane.

I try to avoid doing this as much as possible, BUT when there is a car in an otherwise nearly deserted motorway sitting at 60mph, in the middle lane, where the limit it 70mph - why should I have to swing out across the middle then outer lane, to overtake, then return back across the middle lane to the inside?! It's not ME that's at fault there I'm afraid...

Maybe i should rephrase - people who do that to skip through traffic on purpose. It is dangerous. Bear in mind i drive mostly on the M1 with occasional jaunts down the M40 (where i haven't seen this as far as i can remember) and the M1 is almost never deserted as i'm sure most Brits who drive should know. I have only ever had it happen on the fast lane where it is choca-block with cars and people see a gap in the middle lane if by some fluke it's moving a tad quicker - so they jump over into small gaps to gain one minute or so on their overall journey.

I would and have never gormlessly sat in any non-slow lane doing only 60-70 (tbh i very rarely go under 70 on motorways out of choice) and block people. I have more sense than that :)

To be fair in the UK the motorway speed limit is 70mph, but everyone drives faster so you'll only ever really be pulled over for 80+. It's a case of we can't police everybody.

I think it is unfair to blame 3 series drivers. All BMW drivers are of the same standard imho

I agree jab. I don't discriminate, I place them all in the same category

I walked to the local shop last night. Parked outside was an X6. Parked diagonally across 2 disabled bays

What blunt instrument did you use to kindly leave a message on his cars bodywork?

Yeah, now THAT does irritate me!!

Another, albeit minor thing that annoys me is when you slow or stop to let a car through when there is an obstruction on THEIR side of the road, and they drive out and past without giving you either a wave or a flash of the lights to acknowledge you. In fact, discourteous driving in general really irritates me. I try my best to let people out when they're clearly been waiting a while, or let people past in such situations, and it annoys me when other drivers don't reciprocate with basic good manners.
