Nah, 2008 would be better, simply because of the end! :P And also controversial Grands Prix such as Mount Fuji, where Massa and Hamilton famously came together on-track. And also the pitlane accident at Montreal! (That was 2008 wasn't it?)

But yeah, 2007 would be quite intense, but mainly because of the politics. Maybe Rush 2 could incorporate both seasons?

I remember mid-2009 and some commentator saying 'they'll make a film of this one day....."

the trouble with 2009 is that there is no human battle. sure it is a good underdog story. a team being saved to being world champions. but that is it really.

2007 and the lewis/alonso battle would be good with all the spygate stuff as well.
2008 only the end 30 seconds would be exciting.
2010 would be good. Think of the build up to the last race.

Those seasons are all far too recent to have any sort of nostalgia factor, or make the film anything special - maybe in 10 - 15 years time, but not now.

I'd go for 1984 personally - it would almost be a direct follow-on story. They can start with Lauda retiring, and McLaren pursuing him, eventually coaxing him out of retirement leading up to the monumental battle between the experienced old fox (Lauda), and the young pretender (Prost). With the way that season went, including a run of six consecutive races with the winners being Lauda, Prost, Lauda, Prost, Lauda, Prost, and the last race with Lauda dropping down the field then gradually fighting his way through in a manner almost eerily similar to Hunt years before, to win the WDC by HALF a point?!?

It makes 1984 the absolutely natural follow-on to Rush, I can't see any other argument to be honest that would make half the film.

It can then build straight up to Rush three, with the introduction of Senna in the 1984 season, and perhaps some hints (with artistic merit) to what is to follow.

Rush three would then be based around the THREE seasons of 1988 - 1990.

Doing things in that way would be the PERFECT trilogy and would make an amazing box-set.

Sounds like someone needs to start writing a screenplay.

Only joking of course. We could have one based on 1982 and the following themes:

- The rivalry between Pironi and Villeneuve
- Deaths of Villeneuve and Paletti, as well as the career-ending crash of Pironi.
- FISA-FOCA war and Grand Prix boycotts
- 11 Different Grand Prix winners - with Rosberg the unlikely eventual champion.

Maybe it could extend to cover the 5 years of Pironi's life after the season trying to rehabilitate and return to racing before him dying in a speedboat crash and his misses giving birth to twin children and naming them Gilles and Didier.

Also another contender could be Jochen Rindt's posthumous win in 1970 and the discovery of his replacement Fittipaldi.
