The way things are going, I'm sure the thought has crossed Jenson's mind that having a Russian girlfriend might increase his chances on keeping the McLaren seat for a couple years.

You mean Japanese don't you. She's only half Japenese but Jens plays that card for all it's worth. I think she announced she had become 'all Japenese' at one of the Japanese GP's

I'm not sure if even that's enough to save him.

No Im sure he did mean Russian. As in Button would contemplate dumping the current one and getting a Russian one, seeing as how much he plays on the current one.

Thats how I read it anyway.

I'd say keep the Japanese chick and start wearing Japanese flags/helmets for all it's worth and make sushi his daily diet, all that he can to make Honda think he's converted to a Japanese sensei. What's the point of Russia...McLaren have no major ties with them, unless Button wants to go to Marussia or wtv.

Why would Honda want Button? Its obvious that they are pushing McLaren into making changes. Why would they want Button who was driving for them when they left F1 in an embarrasing manner. especially when he is now driving for Mclaren in their most embarassing year.

And a Japanese model is going to make Arai and the other engineering geniuses at Honda lose their rationality and and correlate that to selling more cars in Japan?

Lets face it, its curtains for Button. If he is retained for 2014 its only because its a regroup year, everything is about 2015 and Hondas determination to start as winners. Like they are gonna insist on Button because he has a Japanese gf is laughable at best

And lets say they get Brawn for 2015, the last business Brawn and Button did together was Button suing Brawn for his race car

I was being sarcastic, it's just Button and he's not worth a serious post.

The Lewis thread has been slow of late. He manages to leave a sinking ship, manages to turn another ship around and manages another year of solidly consistent driving and before you know it, the most prolific driver thread on the forum is no longer the most viewed driver thread on the forum.

Someone or someones have been hitting the refresh button a lot. :hehe:

I think it is unfair to say he turned the team around. Most of the work was already done before he turned up. He just tirned up at the right time

Sure you'd say that, but what proof have you? Anyway did you see the way he revolutionized the steering wheel on the Merc? I'm sure there were at least two or three other revelatory "well at McLaren they did it this way" comments. :D

Are you saying that Lewis Hamilton turned up at Brackley on the 1st of January this year. Got on the computer and designed a decent car? I am not saying he has not put an input into the car just that to say is single handedly turned the team around is a bit of a stretch.

Drivers don't design, they drive as fast as the car will go galvanising the designers

Lewis has done this

His record in making a car work is telling. 2007 he comes in not knowing sh*t and the car was quick already, wins the following year in 2008 (Alonso had stopped being friends with his team by mid season 2007), then 2009 McLaren goes 'revolutionary' where there were reg changes, comes out with a bit of a duck....and by the end of the year they were winners again. 2010, 2011, 2012, all three years the car was a winner though a driver can't do more than give the team the right direction to head towards in terms of making a car faster....they can't control pitstops and strategy and what not.

2013 McLaren have come out with a pile of junk, after what Button said about "they've finally listened to meeee :cloud9: ", and now it seems they aren't keen on renewing his contract.

Meantime in Brackley, Mercedes starts the season of as 4th best car and now they're 10 points behind 2nd best with 4 races to go. Puzzles somehow fall into place don't they.

It's just a shame it took so many people so long to see what was going on. I guess that's why the Lewis thread is quieter. It's blatantly obvious now. We don't have to keep screaming it from the rooftops, just sit back and watch him do his stuff in a team that lets him and appreciate him. And a team mate who can cut the mustard without having to resort to skulduggery. And remember, This year he is in a car not designed for him or with his style, preferences and sitting position in mind. The brakes and seating position have been far from what Lewis requires from a car. Next year they won't be.

It was a bit of a joke you know... the steering wheel comment was the clue. :hehe:

But on a serious note, I'm sure Mercedes is very glad to have Lewis on board, as I'm sure the board members feels that the investment in him and the turn around in the team (that was supposed to happen in 2014) is not a coincidence. It's just a bonus that it started happening early on in 2013 and it has been very well worth it.

I think Lewis has adapted well to a car which like RC has stated, didn't have him in mind from the driving position on down to the brakes but he's adapted well and the pairing with Nico has been what a driver pairing should be, two guys trying to outdo each other through driving strengths rather than through games off the track. With the exception of the Team orders early on in the season, I think Nico has been more of a challenge to Lewis driving skill than Button ever was.

I think at this point, IF Lewis is ever going to win a second driver's championship it will likely come next season because whatever advantage Mercedes show up with in either engine reliability and a clear slate car with little in the way of carry over superfluous aero gimmicks won't last long. Red Bull will soon catch up and Ferrari will always be hanging about as long as they have Alonso.

As much ad I support Hamilton and want him to win, I don't believe Lewis will win another WDC.
