But the tyres weren't blowing out because they were unsafe, they were blowing out because the teams were mis-using them. Strangely a left rear tyre is designed to be on the left rear of the car NOT the right rear. THIS caused the blowouts therefore all the FIA/Pirelli had to do was ban this tactic and all would have been fine. Infact I believe it was Merc who discovered this tactic at the test in Barcelona.

You'd be completely wrong on this one, Mercedes was one of the last teams to figure that out. You'd also recall that Massa had two blowouts that race so was Ferrari using them wrong as we'll? We saw those violent delamination explosions a handful to times before Silverstone. Force India saw blowouts as well before Silverstone if I recall correctly.

The tire situation has indeed been crap, but let's not blame Red Bull on this one, they just took advantage of an already bad situation. The issue is this whole artificial degradation philosophy has been a failure for the sport and Bernie's testicles should be cut off. It's not like he's using them for anything. If Ferrari is so concerned about the poor tires now, they should have been more vociferous about the poor tires before the fiasco, the tires were an unsafe bad joke for the sport.

Way off topic now, but it looks like Vettel is not winning this poll, so that's been answered already.

+1 Agree completely. Redbull were a bunch of whiners but the tyres had to be changed, since Pirelli ducked up the previous batch which couldn't take some extra kerb.

Red Bull were posturing and positioning to get the change that suited them, and they succeeded. That is and always has been part of F1 so kudos to them for their achievment. Personally I think it was so decisive it pretty much gained them this years championships which otherwise would have been a close race between Ferrari, Lotus and the Red Bull.

There were plenty of other solutions available to address the tire safety problem without the need to change the rules mid-season. But Red Bull were able to garner the support of enough other teams to get exactly what they wanted.

Webber and Vettel are completly different builds and F1 cars are tightly packed, there is no doubt that Webber has a disadvantage and for the designers and for the company it is in their interest to design 1 great car rather than two medorcre cars. Have your number 1 driver win the races, your second driver fight for podium positions not only helping the number 1 driver get further down the road but cleaning up loose points making it harder for other teams.

It's obvious that Sebastian is their number one driver and that the team is geared towards him that doesn't mean that they don't want webber to be fast and win races too, your safer bet is to back the smaller, lighter driver.

In the end it all comes down to money, they want to win constructors as their main proirty hence these calls like "multi-21" which is supposed to ensure both drivers bring their cars home as gently as possible because there is no need to waste tyres, risk crashing, stress your engine... etc.

In Malaysia we all saw Vettel's true colors, that was the biggest sausage move of the year and ever since that race look what happens when he's on the podium he gets massivly boo'ed and for sure this is definately getting to him, I bet deep down he knows it was a mistake and if he could go back he would not do it again.

In regards to F1 being a sport, yes it is a sport but for the FOM unfortunately money speaks, they want to have F1 as profitable as possible, they don't want bad publicity, they want F1 fans to be happy, engaged and enjoying the sport just to get our money. They will always call him a great driver, it's in their interest to try and keep fans on side.

The mid-season tyre changes was a complete piss take, it ruined Alonso, Raikkonen, Hamilton and the Force India's chances and massivly favoured the red bulls.

All in all, there is too much politics in F1 and it makes a mockery of the sport :(

I'm personally very glad Seb made that move. Bad sportsmanship for sure, but it made brilliant TV!

It will be even more 'brilliant TV' if Webber pulled out a knife and charged at Vettel on the podium lol

@ Lew, I personally hate bad sportsmanship regardless of if it made it entertaining or not :S
@ Hammer, I can also say that I'd hate that, I may dislike Vettel but all he needs is a good slap and a stern talking to :P
@ Cookin, hehe I see what you did there ;)
