In previous years, you'd frequently end up with threads around 35-40 pages. The 2011 Canadian GP had over 50, if I remember rightly.

Depends on the talking points per race. Canada had multiple collisions, strategic errors by various teams, a last lap winner, the works.

On average I think a race thread gets about 250 replies....add in a very familiar (and boring) winner for the 4th straight race with a race without any real talking points, slash the average by 100 and there you go.

Remember also a lot of people use twitter now , to get information and chat , that's grown hugely, it used to be mostly on forums.

I know what you mean Denthul. You only have to look back at the Aussie and Sepang threads earlier this year, and they were well over 30, if I remember correctly.

2011 Canadian GP thread was immense. Most ever online at one time until it was bettered by Valencia 2012. :D

Before that the records were held by the Webber Vettel crash in turkey and before that Ferrari's team order to Massa.

We like controversy it would seem.

Indeed. Oddly, the 2008 Brazilian GP thread was pretty small in comparison, despite all the excitement.

Just 14 pages for what was a genuinely landmark and extremely entertaining Grand Prix.

Oddly enough the thing that sticks out most for me in that race was watching Massa's father's face go from sheer elation to utter dismay in the span of two seconds.

Haha that and Ferrari's reaction made me laugh my head off....a$$holic though it may seem.

Though for me what sticks out are the 2 laps when Hamilton was trailing Vettel....wow. I wasn't even that big a fan of Lewis, though I preferred him taking it than Massa, and recall just repeating to myself "Man oh man how unlucky can one guy get in 2 years" I was just repeating that while watching those 2 laps in shock. :hehe: Glad he got it in the end though.

A race thread on here only managing 10 pages? F1 really does suck now huh.

Nice to see you back scotty, hope you had a good time away from the forum.

That was what you call wearing your heart on your face

I am surprised - I am hopeful I am elated - I am in pain, but despite the whole episode I am still scared of you

How many pages does that 'other' forum manage for a race thread then?

10 seems pretty normal to me, especially since there weren't too many incidents in this race and the main talking point is just the continuation of Webber/Vettel which isn't too hot nowadays anyway.

You mean GP Focus i assume... i have no idea cause i'm too busy with real life and other more important projects to care in the last couple of months :) I know Peter Windsor guested on a podcast there fairly recently though, which is not to be scoffed at! Also the info suggests that 500-700 people see podcast posts on social media now.

My point though... was that F1 has been crap recently and is reflected in the discussion fans have about it, hence the lack of posts/pages.

Would you say it's just this season that's been crap? Or previous ones too?

I thought last year was rather good.

Well the winner has been predictable for quite a while but almost every race so far this season has delivered for me. I know there's been 1 or 2 snoozers somewhere, I think Barcelona was one of them.
