Seeing a few 'driver vs driver' polls on these internet forums, and realised no one yet seems to have delved into one of the best friendships in the F1 driver circle - Kimi and Sebastian. Rate: who's better? Who do you prefer? In terms of abilities AND personality. I'd love to know what you all think.

Go :)

I like Kimi better for a number of reasons.

* lack of political shenanigans has given us a number of great moments!!

* drove and will be driving for Ferrari!!

* doesn't seem to think of F1 as the be-all and end-all of life!!

* smarter driver, especially considering he doesn't usually have clear air!!

* those gorgeous ice-blue eyes!!

Big fan of both, but I like Seb's combination of hard-working top driver, humble team player who serves his engineers and is always the first to thank the team for a good effort, down-to-earth personal life, and a young funny guy who you could have a drink with.

:bs:

Kimi is better - at the start of the season, he was the best at saving tyres and would have mounted a serious WDC challenge (as I believe Alonso would have done too) had Red Bull and Vettel not whined and lobbied with Pirelli to change the tyres when they were fine and it was the fault of the teams who put the tyres on opposite sides of the car that caused them to blow out!

For me Vettel is in the same situation as Rosberg was last year. No one really knows how good he is as he can not really be gauged agaknst anything.

Well we know from 2010 that Webber matched Seb, and continued to do so whenever the car was not optimised around Seb. Even at the last race we see Webber close behind despite the strategic extra pitstop.

Rosberg beat MS2 but loses to LH yet we have a clearer idea of where he stands.

Di Resta beat Seb in the lesser series this is a fact. However Di Resta and Webber would not be comparable to MS2 in my book. lets see how young Ricciardo does, that should help the accuracy of Sebs ranking. For example if Seb needs a different car to beat Ric and Ric gets close to him on the occasions Sebs car allows him to be ragged around bends, I suspect Lewis and Alonso might revert to their previous non pc appraisals

I like Kimi best. As Sagi says no political shenanigans. He wouldn't shaft a teammate. That means a lot to me. Of the world champions on the grid I'd say Kimi and Lewis, wouldn't . Alonso , Vettel and button would. Rosberg wouldn't either.
That aspect, along with talent, determines my favourite drivers.
On driving, I think it would be close, I think maybe Vettel would have the edge, but as has been mentioned, how can we really judge him when he has a faster car and is favoured so much over his team mate. He becomes ragged under pressure, Kimi is ice cool.

The best drivers drive well in good or bad cars, good or bad weather, WDC teammates. Thats how they earn the qualitative respect of others

Drivers who need patsy teammates, or need to steal wins, or need the car to be endowed with a certain trick will always be suspect. just like a boxer who never fights a ranked rival or a boxer who can only win when the judges have been bribed

sooner or later these types get found out

Someone earlier had a really great point about dominant cars such as the Williams in the 90s. Had any one of the drivers who won a WDc remained with the team they would have won each year like MS or Seb. The difference is they had already proven themselves to get the williams seat, MS had shown he was a good driver by winning a WDc at a lesser team.

A driver at the best team who is never seen to beat his teammate fairly and indeed never has a top ranked teammate is more likely to attract boos than respect

apart from the fans who send him their picture and want to be with him

Kimi never gets booed, his fans dont make excuses for him and try and change opinions, I sometimes wonder what Seb fans are trying to cover up

Agree, I've never seen a reigning world champion move over and help his team mate who was in a better position to win a championship before Kimi - Kimi got a lot of respect from me for what he did at China in 2008 - took a lot of guts. Guts I dont think other drivers have!

I think i'll compare the two directly when they have even remotely close machinery in terms of performance myself.

I agree mate, I don't really think anyone has a stick to gauge Vettel with at the moment

Just thought I'd quickly post a comment before this thread gets locked as well :P:twisted:

I like Seb. He is constantly hungry for more and more and more, whereas we've seen Kimi loose focus and seemingly commitment. I know some people disagree with this, but it's what came across.

Personality-wise, Seb comes out soaring for me. True, Kimi is a character, but his treatment of the media and photographers is just too dismissive and too arrogant sometimes. Seb is a brilliant at interviews, brilliant with the media.

He's also cute. And that seals my vote. :P:P

Absolutely the most ridiculous statement I have read on any F1 forum, anywhere. You're even funnier than the guy (another forum) that claimed Massa was one of the greats.
