Terrible news...first thing I saw on the web this morning when I woke up. I wonder if it was a suicide thing? Inappropriate to speculate, I know, but surely a healthy woman of 33 doesn't just...you know...kick the bucket one day of natural causes? Terrible news anyway.

I think it would be easy to jump to the conclusion when you would consider the mental issues of her physical injuries post her crash, however you could also consider that it might be an after effect of the injuries that no one could of forseen

As you say. Very inappropriate.

Apologies - I'm just shocked!

Way too young =(

I can only assume that life for her just wasn't the same after her accident. With half vision, it would be hard for me to have confidence with getting back into racing (if anyone would even allow that), she probably faced alot of personal mental issues after that, who knows.

Alex Zenardi lost both his legs in an indycar race, yet still had motivation to still accomplish many goals after that and continue what he loved. But I suppose sustaining the type of injury Maria endured to the head is alot more traumatizing.

The family said it best - they had an extra year and a half with her, she could easily have died when she lost the eye. Sad affair especially for a pretty girl following her fathers footsteps as a racing driver in a tough sport.

Such an incredible shame. I also hope this doesn't stunt her work on getting more women into motorsports, I know she was passionate about that.
