So Seb reckons he is less 'dominant' than MS. Does he mean less boring or does he mean better at sandbagging. 'oh I only win by 6 seconds, MS used to win by 30 seconds'

Ok Seb we got it

He has got a point though. Red Bull's level of domination this season has not been quite as intense as when MS and Barrichello swept all before them back in '02 and '04.

This season has still seen a greater variation in winning teams and drivers. Well, that's how it seems anyway.

He really should make up his mind:

Press Association staff wrote:">Sebastian Vettel says Michael Schumacher's F1 reign was more boring

Sebastian Vettel believes Michael Schumacher's era of domination was far more boring than his own run of supremacy.

Vettel could win his fourth consecutive Formula One world title in Japan on Sunday, a feat achieved twice, by Juan Manuel Fangio and Schumacher – the latter claiming five in a row.

With a 77-point cushion on Ferrari's Fernando Alonso, Vettel needs a victory at Suzuka and for the Spaniard to finish ninth or worse to claim another place in the record books.

Such superiority resulted in Lewis Hamilton remarking after Vettel's victory in South Korea last Sunday that he felt sorry for the fans as the racing had become as predictable as it was in Schumacher's day.

Hamilton suggested he used to watch the start of a race, fall asleep, and wake up again knowing Schumacher had won.

"That's a compliment, first of all," said Vettel. "But it's very different. There's probably one race which was a bit of an exception. If you take Singapore [last month], the gaps we had and were able to build up were incredible, to lap two seconds quicker than the cars behind us.

"If you take Korea, which was more similar to Spa [the Belgian GP], the gap was something between three and six seconds for the whole race. If you look at 10 years ago [in Schumacher's time], it was more like 30 to 60 seconds, which is a big difference.

"Don't get me wrong, it's a nice cushion to have in the car when you see you're three seconds down the road. But equally, you know if you make one stupid mistake – in Korea, for example, a lock-up was very likely and three seconds is nothing compared to 30 or 60."

Hamilton, believing his words had been misconstrued, later took to Twitter to extol Vettel's virtues, proclaiming him to be "a great champion" and "a human being who is funny and humble".

Vettel was at least grateful for such comments, adding: "It's very nice to hear something like that, and I can only give it back. There is respect amongst the drivers.

"Obviously there's a lot of stuff that gets written and said, but the most important thing is when you go up to another driver, whether you feel respected or not, and I think that is the case.

"Lewis is one of the best drivers currently in Formula One. I have been getting along quite well with him lately, so I can only say: 'Thank you very much', and give it back."

Only because Webber doesnt have the same car. If he had then the second place would also be sewn up and the few wins by others would be Marks. Also if it wasnt for the tyre nursing era, Rocky would have no reason to hold Seb back from breaking records of how far ahead he could finish.

Also whatever you say about MS, he had the decency not to bore us with sticking the same finger up every single time to remind us his car was the best

I'm sorry but I hardly found the MS era as boring as people claim. However, the amount of rules they changed because of that was ridiculous, the 1 hour qualifying session morphed to some individual 1 lap crap, tyres changed and what not.....anyway the MS domination era was a lot more respectable. I didn't like the guy, but it's always great to see a guy move to a crap team and help build it up to domination and stick the finger up metaphorically to the rest of the paddock. Plus, he and Ferrari had the decency to be open about their no.1 and no.2 policy, not to mention Barrichello was always just there behind his teammate without stupid unexplainable faults hampering him every weekend.

Instead of the current Bieber-style celebration of a nerdy looking fella jumping into the fastest car and giving everyone the finger by just driving the already quickest car around to the line, stealing a win from a teammate who doesn't get much breaks anyway during his season, yay good job.

Oh crap just saw this is the Vettel thread....anyway, Vettel is a hell of a driver. Deserves all he's getting currently, top guy.

"I have never met anybody, with the possible exception of Michael
Schumacher and now Sebastian Vettel, who devoted themselves to every aspect of their craft, the way Ayrton Senna did.

"When the tyres changed from Bridgestone to Pirelli, Vettel was the only person who went to Pirelli in Italy to find out how they made the tyres, where they made the tyres, what sort of tyres they were.

"That's the sort of thing that Senna did and maybe to a lesser extent Schumacher did. The three of them come from the same mould and they have the same characteristics, but Vettel has something that neither of the other two had and that's a very well developed sense of humour.

"And my blood boils when I hear people booing him; they should be shouting praises, clapping their hands.

"He's a very nice chap and certainly one of the most gigantically talented drivers' we've ever seen."

I love Murray Walker to bits!!! But I beg to differ with his views. Vettel is talented, without doubt, almost as talented as Alonso and Hamilton. Most talented we've ever seen?? I reckon the likes of Gilles Villeneuve or senna would leave him wondering what day it was. If of course there was no preposterous car advantage.

Murray in his old age is as generous and nice as ever.

Thing about Senna and Clark and the true greats is that they demonstrated their talent all the time. Senna outdrove the field in a Toleman in Monaco. In the best car he out drove the field but also outdrove Prost who was the most ruthlessly efficient WDC of the era. Lewis and Alonso in the same car tested each other.

However until Seb beats the best drivers of this era in the same car, he will be a great in waiting. He got shown up in the lesser series( Paul di Resta :yikes: ), Webber matched him in 2010 when he had the same car and Webber aint a great. And it wasnt as if Seb had an off year in 2010. The 2 were pretty equal.

And then we saw what happened in the few races when the Red Bull did not have a massive advantage over the other cars, Seb had problems making Q3, when the Red Bull lost its aero advantage and was not faster than the others he grabbed the title crashkid.

In other words, although massively talented without doubt and IMo the second fastest guy on the grid, when one has a car with a 2 sec advantage its much easier to make no mistakes or overtake or carve through the field. Unless he soundly beats a top ranked driver in the same car, or wins with a car thats equal to the others (in normal conditions), without getting flustered and crashing into people I just cannot see how his talent compares to era greats like Senna or Lewis or Alonso.

I think next year with the new regulations should see things mixed up a bit, lets see if he can still win each race if the car doesnt have a 2 sec advantage for at least part of the year.

I'm glad we all know Murray Walker's gone senile
Better to listen to people who repeat a false mantra that was true for about 2% of the year.

Murray's not senile! He's just a lovely gentleman who is passionate about F 1 but who sometimes gets mixed up and says funny things. He's always done that.

True RC, Murray has been confusing drivers for decades. Chances are he was referring to Harry Heinze Frentzen anyway :hehe:

Because god forbid he might be right about Vettel huh :wavey:

Or god forbid that Vettel was using an illegal aid to traction control in Singapore. 32 seconds, in 15 laps, he IS a god.
