Key word: speculation. Nobody but Ferrari and Alonso know if that is actually in the contract.

I can't see him leaving this year, but next year is certainly a possibility. Are Honda engines a lure, though? The last one they produced was terrible...

Not sure why it's ok to think the worst of some drivers and only the best of others!!
I guess, even we F1 fans are human, eh? :D

I would imagine the honda engines in 15 will have all the teeting problems that everyone will get out of the way this year.

That's not a concern, because quarter of a century ago they had helped McLaren dominate the sport so expect more of the same in 2015. :D

I just read a news report that Pirelli and McLaren were planning a tyre test after the US GP, but two other teams have vetoed it, and now they can't do it. It was with a 2011 car.

I wonder why they vetoed it, and which teams it was.

They complained it would give them an advantage to run at the circuit prior to the GP being held there. I think Force India were said to be one of the teams (not surprising).

Oh. It was BEFORE the GP. Didn't realise that. That's makes sense.

McLaren has hinted at the signing of some 'headline grabbing' technical staff to boost its bid to get back to the front of the Formula 1 grid.

Amid a disappointing 2013 campaign, and facing the prospect of its first season since 1980 with no podium finishes, McLaren says it has been conducting a thorough analysis of how it can bolster its organisation.

Team principal Martin Whitmarsh said: "We are continuously doing that - and certainly this year we cannot be satisfied where we are.

"So we have been recruiting in the technical team, strengthening that quite a lot actually. There have been quite a few new starters this year.

"There are some yet unannounced that will be headline grabbing when they are announced, so there are things going on clearly.

"We have to look at ourselves as a team, from the top of the management all the way through to our technical team, to make sure we can return to winning ways as quickly as possible."

McLaren lost technical director Paddy Lowe to Mercedes earlier this year, but did recruit Matt Morris as new engineering director from Sauber.

Yup, if true it's an interesting question. I seriously hope it's someone exciting.

Brawn's future is constantly being talked about, so maybe even him. It is the silly season, so I may as well make silly suggestion! :)

I wonder if Whitmarsh's definition of 'headline grabbing' will be the same as mine.....

I can't think of any worse ideas. :(

I'm struggling to think of personnel who would be headline-grabbing and also available. The ones that I can think of have only recently moved to another team (mostly Mercedes...).
