So thinking about this, I'd say they have traction control 'by the back door'. Like they had flexi wings 'by the back door'. But it's only on one car. Fine, if they've found something clever and stolen a march. Hopefully it isn't illegal...cheating. But whatever it is, lets not try to pretend Vettel is a super human. He has a super car...with gizmo's. I bet half the grid would be ahead in that.

He's certainly a super driver, and let's not try to put him down on that, no one should be doubting how good a driver he is, but it's magnified by the super car too.

"It's true when you find a Red Bull you see they are faster than you in the corners but this also happens with other cars and we don't say anything, like Mercedes. Hamilton was pole position in Hungary and winning easy, same feeling. All the things are good and it is up to us to do a better job."

Hey, it's progress. At least we've gone from "we'd never" to nah nah nah nah nah! You can't figure it out.

A little quote re:'the booing' from the great man himself:

It is not nice but it is not everybody booing. That's life - and I am sure we can all imagine ourselves at a football stadium cheering for the home team and if the other team scores first then your first reaction is not to say 'what a fantastic goal, they really deserved to score'. I don't think we should take it too seriously.

I think we all need to take a step back and do as he says.

Ok, I voted in the other thread that he'd stay at Ferrari.....but clearly he's after the Bull seat :D

Ha Ha, Vettel does make me laugh:

When asked by Sky Sports News today how his Friday had gone, he replied with....

Overall a pretty solid day, we had no issues with the car, and there is room for improvement - especially once we turn on the Traction Control

Funny :hehe:
Steve Matchett on NBCSports had a rather detailed and technical explanation for the traction control-like effect that Red Bull, Newey and SV are able to extract from the car. It reminds one of co-evolution and symbiosis

I saw that and his explanation makes a lot of sense, but it makes sense all the time and on all circuits, clearly this isn't something that RBR discovered in Singapore. The question remains why the otherwise inexplicable gap, and why the car obviously sounded differently. It doesn't matter really, it's for the other teams to figure out. But I'm glad it looks like next year we'll be done with all of the blown exhaust games.

Remember they said it's working best in corners at 50-60mph and Singapore has quite a few of them (the 90 degree corners). Plus, now that they've mastered it, it will (and has recently) benefited them on almost any circuit.

Through control of the flow of air around the bottom part of the sidepods to create a coanda effect pulling the exhaust gasses down along with it and getting more air exiting through the diffuser creating more down force because of the lower pressure.

This effect they said is optimum at 50 to 60 miles per hour.

Which I agree with entirely, but it doesn't explain the entirely different sound of Vettel's engine when compared to all other Renault powered cars.

How does he say it works?

It's a sophisticated exploitation of the Coanda effect, which requires the driver to play along and simply trust that the car would behave in the predicted way. The driver will have to step on it very early on in a corner - something that SV has mastered well while MW seems to be a bit hesitant (less trusting?) and thus, less able to fully benefit from it. It being a simulation of traction control by diverting the airflow/exhausts down to the diffuser (despite the regulations trying to prevent that), rather than over the rear wing.
