Webber expects Vettel at Ferrari

Mark Webber says he one day expects current Red Bull partner Sebastian Vettel to join Ferrari

Mark Webber has said he wouldn't be surprised to one day see his Red Bull team-mate Sebastian Vettel move to Ferrari.

The Scuderia confirmed the signing of Kimi Raikkonen on a two-year deal this week as partner to Fernando Alonso, with Vettel having been mentioned more than once as a possible Ferrari driver of the future.

Raikkonen's deal with Ferrari will now take him through to the end of 2015 when Vettel's current Red Bull agreement is also set to draw to a conclusion.

Quoted as telling Sky Sports, Webber said he felt Ferrari was still an option for Vettel in the coming season and that the German could well be approached to replace Raikkonen when their respective contracts are coming to an end.

"There are so many reasons why it's a bit of a gamble to help Ferrari," Webber said of the deal. "[There are] two years for probably both of them, actually. I think [no more] over that. What they do after that, obviously, is pick Seb up off the back of Red Bull and they keep moving from there.

"It's a very short-term, aggressive statement from Ferrari to put the team at the front."

Vettel is so respectful....

Sebastian Vettel skipped the farewell party, attended by several other drivers and F1 team personnel, with the German sitting in the floor below playing with his iPhone, according to the Bild.

To be honest, if I were in his position I'd do the same. The article states that Webber never showed up for the photo shoots whenever Vettel won....basically it's a clear message that my teammate hates my guts and wouldn't really miss me at his farewell party, so why bother. At least, putting myself in Vettel's soily shoes after his 'actions' towards Webber, I'm just justifying his absence at the farewell party....not his personality, let's be clear on that. :D

but it was only Webber so it didn't really matter!

A bit harsh :D

It's his own fault for playing the victim at every oppiortunity. He's going to be worse than Barrichello!

It's rather childish and pretty poor form IMO for Vettel to snub Webber's send-off. It would have cost him nothing to turn up and, if there is any feuding going on between the two, by attending, he would have come out the bigger man with this gesture. IMO all this does is further entrench his perceived persona of being childish and obstreperous.

This is a differences I see between Lewis and Seb. Lewis may still wear his heart on his sleeve, but he has definitely shown that he can learn and mature.

I think Seb has missed his window of opportunity at Ferrari. Perhaps, for F1 this is a god thing. Seb should stay at Red Bull I believe as he owes them so much and, to end his career there would be a fitting way to pay that back.

I am not convinced about that. A lot of people complete their contracts at the end of 2015 and by then most teams would have settled-in with their turbo packages. McLaren would have had the Honda engine for the season and be able to show the results.

Vettel at Red Bull, Hamilton at Mercedes, Raikkonen at Ferrari and Button at McLaren (IMO he'll stay till end of 2015) would have finished their contracts. Rosberg and Perez will be around too and perhaps their present seats becoming available.

I have a feeling that there will be a lot of movers & shakers for the start of 2016 season and Vettel will be one of them.

One way to make him more 'Anglophile' is to invite him to stand-in for the umpire every time Aussies bat during the Ashes!

And, pray tell, why would he "need" to be more British? :duckie:

Yes "Lewis" is mature, all right. After winning in Hungary he commented that he could win all the remaining races in the second half of the season. He made a great start in Spa and Monza.

Compare that kind of confidence to Vettel's hesitation. The guy gets pole with nearly half a second ahead of the rest and says things like "it is a long race tomorrow" or "anything can happen" etc. How immature can one get? :P

Going back a bit because for some reason I have missed this thread. If it was all the car then why isn't it always a 1-2 for red bull.

Vettel told his race engineer... whaaaa! Raikkonen "didn't give me enough room" when he attempted to pass on the outside of turn four late in the race. There's there Vettel, we'll talk to Charlie about it. Yes, very mature indeed.
