I wonder why Ferrari have gone for two no. 1 drivers rather than the sensible approach of having a clear no. 1 and no. 2? Seems a bit of an unnessesary gamble on their part.

Maybe they've seen how things have worked out for Mercedes?

Doubt it. They clearly have a no. 1 and no. 2 set-up. Maybe not as clear cut as other teams but it is there.

Well its not been working recently for them. So maybe they think a change is for the better.

Plus, I think Ferrari care more for the WCC than WDC. So this line up can only be a good thing for the WCC.

It'll work until they start taking points off of each other. Can you imagine the radio instructions:

Engineer: Fernando, Kimi is faster than you.
Alonso: You guys are idiots, mamma mia boohoohoo (all in Italian of course)

OR

Engineer: Kimi, Fernando is faster than you.
Raikkonen: Leave me alone, I know what I'm doing.

They may take points off each other, but either way Ferrari will still get those points, and that's Ferrari's main concern (imo).

True but if there is a chance of a 1/2 finish and the drivers are scrapping over who finishes ahead for a 3/4 finish someone else will get the upper hand.

That is a good point.

But I do feel that if that situation arises in a race, Ferrari will have no qualms about team orders. And if a driver fails to follow those orders, Ferrari (unlike other teams) will have the balls to reprimand their drivers.

I would say that Alonso would still have the edge in terms of pace IMO but yeah, will be very interesting indeed to see how it play out. I say lets just get this season done with and get with 2014 already!

:drink: il drink to that cummon 2014! :D

Great to welcome Kimi back. At the same time, wish Felipe all the best where ever he decides his future belongs.

The decision is absolutely consistent with Ferrari's long standing driver philosophy. I don't see any problems from Kimi if Nando has the upper hand - which I would think will be the case (although I also think it will be a much closer thing than now).

I do also recognise that there is potential for Nando to not cope so well with being headed by Kimi - but if ever there was a team to manage that, it would be Ferrari. It would be an interesting test of Nando's maturity. In the end I think we might see some heart-on-the-sleeve stuff from Nando but I also believe he would cope without major incident.

Two years would be just perfect for Jules to take over- assuming he can continue to develop in the positive way he has shown so far.

I think this almost completely closes the door on Seb ever driving for Ferrari, and perhaps that's a good thing. Red Bull has given him so much, perhaps it would be fitting for him to end his career there.

I agree apart from the heart on sleeve stuff, I don't think we'll ever see that from Nando, it all seems very PR or very political from him. And the Seb thing seems unlikely that he, who can drive for at least another 7-8 years(?) will spend all that time at RBR.

In think Alonso will generally have the edge in driving but Kimi will definitely have it psychological. So long as Kimi is given a level playing field ( I don't think he'd accept anything less), then he'll turn up, drive the car to its limit, and if he finishes ahead, all well and good, if he doesn't , ' oh well, that's life' ,takes his pay check and gets on with the next race. Nando however I think will start to come apart and make demands and throw toys if he doesn't get the upper hand..........which is why it is all so exciting!!!
