I still think Alonso & Raikkonen would make an interesting team and would be given equal status with the WCC in mind. Ferrari - because of their image - value WCC as much as the WDC and it might just work. I don't think Ricciardo will contribute as much as Webber at Red Bull, at least not for a couple of years.

Well, what a tasty line-up for the Scuderia next season, totally didn't expect such a brave pairing at Ferrari. Well done to them.

My prediction? This pairing will NOT last long.

Can anyone explain to me what's changed between 2009 and today with either Kimi or Ferrari that we'd expect anything other than the same results?

TOTAL conjecture on my part:

Alonso wanted to drive at Ferrari; but, Ferrari needed to decide with whom.
If they'd gone with Kimi, that would have meant turning their back on Massa,
just a relatively short time after his accident. Let's not forget that before it,
Massa was the one that was almost WDC, not Kimi who'd won it before that;
but, hadn't shown much "fire" in the meantime! I guess they took all that
into consideration before their final decision was made.

The jury is also out on who actually paid out the rest of Kimi's contract.

Who knows, maybe Kimi was in on the decision? Maybe there was a proviso
that he would be welcome back, if/when Massa left?

Stranger things have happened, eh?? :P

I'll be half a Ferrari fan next year then. Nothing will be sweeter than seeing Alonso get beaten by his teammate again.

I must admit, though I've softened towards Alonso since 2007, I find myself wanting Kimi to get the upper hand.

I have softened towards Alonso, and very much hardened towards Kimi. I hope Alonso does this to Kimi....

I think if alonso is faster than kimi then all will go well. If kimi consistently beats alonso. Fireworks will fly

I wouldn't really want to spend time with either of them tbh... :hehe: Not really bothered who comes out on top, as long as it's close. THAT would be spectacular.

So it is confirmed. I can hardly wait for 2014.

Interestingly, that same article suggests that both Massa and Hulk might have a chance for the now vacant Lotus seat. Personally, I prefer to see Massa there. Nice guy and deserves one last shot at the title, unlikely though it might seem.

I wonder why Jackie Stewart suggests that having Raikkonen as a teammate might have a 'destabilising' influence on Alonso?

IMO, as long as they produce a competitive car, the 2014 WCC is there for Ferrari's taking with a line-up such as this. WDC would be a different matter, especially if Red Bull and Mercedes also produce good cars. That is where Vettel and/or Hamilton could benefit.
