Today's GP at Monza was Lewis Hamilton's 122nd race and he has won 22 of them. He started all 122.

Damon Hill took part in 122 F1 races in his career and also won 22 races but is recorded as having started just 115 of them. I am not sure why. Can anyone tell me?

I think I might know the answer to that. Damon was one of my favourites. When he first started he did some races for Brabham, who were struggling then, he took over from Amati, the female driver. I think she had some license issues, or something like that. Well I know she didnt qualify the car and I think it was the same for Damon . The car was slow and though entered for races it didnt qualify to race very time. I think it qualified twice.

6 times he didn't qualify in the 1992 Brabham.
And he didn't make it to the start of the 1997 Australian Grand Prix after his throttle jammed on the warm-up lap.

So pissed off with the decision to drop Damon after he won the championship, was one Adrian Newey, that it was a big factor in him deciding to leave Williams. I like Frank and admire him hugely, but that was a decision I really didnt like. If Damonstayed at Williams I reckon he'd have had two championships......and then give him the '94 that Schuey stole and suddenly his results look a whole lot different. Damon Hill three time world champion, that sounds nice.

Schuey owned Hill 2 years running in an inferior car then Hill only won once the only competition was his team mate, who would have easily beaten him if it wasn't for team orders. It's little wonder that he was pointed in the direction of the dole que!

Schuey only got 94 by cheating. And yes many of his others by team orders as you say.

It's always going to be about perspective, isn't it?

If you consider that Schumi cheated in '94, then you also must acknowledge that other teams cheated and got away with it or people did not consider "major" enough.

I'm not meaning the rule bending, I'm meaning the deliberate turning in on Damon when he was passing him. He tried it again against Villeneuve and that time got a mild reprimand, but in that effort he damaged his own car instead of Villeneuves with Damon he took his championship.

Schumacher deserved the 94 championship - he scored more points in 12 races than Hill did in 16.

What Schumacher did in 94 was no worse than what Senna and Prost did in 89/90 - yet those 2 never get accused of "Cheating" to win their championships in those years!

Senna had the previous championship taken away from him by Balestre and given to Prost, he wasn't going to sit by and lat another one be taken, he said exactly what he'd do if they put pole on the wrong side of the trak..and he did it.
Not a good tactic I grant you, but not the same in my book.
