Looks like Heikki and Lewis won't be starting where they thought they would this weekend. 5 place penalties each for impeding Heidfeld pushinf Trulli up to third. Should make it even more intereseting tonight.

Whoever blocked Heidfeld deserved it, they clearly obstructed his braking zone. I didn't see the Alonso incident though.

I say that's good. Drivers shouldn't be allowed to slow down like that, especially on the racing line, whilst there are cars still out qualifying. And yes, it will make the race more interesting.

To scotty, Alonso was right behind Heidfeld on that last lap.

Ah right, i didn't notice him in the same place, i only saw Heidfeld's onboard shots.

If McLaren don't get good starts they will get stuck behind the BMW's, at least until they pit. Although it has apparently been raining since 3.30pm yesterday in Sepang...

I hope it continues to do so. Jenson Button, wet weather and a reliable Honda. What more could a Honda fan like me wish for? :P

But even if McLaren do get good starts, they have to fight their way past Alonso and Webber, both of who are experienced drivers and won't exactly be easy to pass. And then, in order to get on to the podium (which I reckon only one will be able to do, really) they have the two BMWs and Trulli. Which, again, won't be easy for them.

What I'm hoping for is a finish like this:

Massa
Heidfeld
Raikkonen
Trulli
Webber
Kubica
Kovalainen
Hamilton or Alonso

Lewis will be praying more than ever that it rains tomorrow that is the only chance he has of getting on the podium. They have to sort out this fuel saving crawl that drivers do when the time is up otherwise we get the situation we are in now.

Someone like Button could even be an outside bet to get on the podium, he will have the advantage of being able to choose his fuel load remember. That's what i'm hoping anyway. :P

Yeah. I thought that with Rubens in Australia (strategy, not podium finish) - he was 11th, so could've been filled for a one-stop strategy, then was moved up to 10th on the grid. That way, he probably wouldn't have pitted when he did the second time, thus avoiding disqualification.

But I hope that the podium sees a Ferrari driver on the top step, and then two other drivers who, after receiving points, would not be that far behind the leaders. If Heidfeld finishes a couple of places ahead of Lewis, which is quite likely, he could become the WDC leader - especially if he finishes 3rd behind Massa and Raikkonen! :)

They should make it 12 lap quali again, no Parc Ferme.

So we can have cars with nearly no fuel compete for pole, and fill them back up for the race.

I agree, let's go back to the basics, the only reason why they changed qualifying rules in the first place was because "Schumacher was dominating and it got boring".

One driver to watch out for though if it rains? Adrian Sutil, the man who was fastest in wet practice at Monaco and brought Home Spyker's only point in F1 in the wet at Fuji. Rosberg is very handy in the wet so this is really Williams' only chance of getting points this weekend.

Personally I think this is rubbish. There were numerous drivers doing slow laps, they either all should be penalised, or none. Instead of handpicking Ron's cars from the bunch as usual. Formula One is become a joke... although a highly adictive one at that ;)

They weren't penalised for going slowly, they were penalised for going slowly on the racing line, which only the two McLarens did. If you watch the session again, you'll see that the Ferraris are off-line and Kubica is well over on the other side of the track.

To 7upJordan, I think you're right about Sutil. I don't think he'll score points, but he probably won't be far behind 8th place. Unless things go like Australia, in which case I would say he might be in with a chance.

I like the new quali rules and it is much more entertaining than when schumi was winning. Parc ferme needs to go as i think it is unfair that strategies have to be set 24 hours before the race

I watched the Quali session again, and I see what you mean. Naughty naughty McLaren ;)
