Good investments? "Frugal" living?

Nope. Hard work. He worked shift work for 31 years. Worked long hours in those 31 years and was paying 30% of his wage into his pension in his last 5years. Even though his pension scheme lost 20% of its value in the last 5 years of his career.

He was lucky to work for household name and company which still gave golden handshakes when he left. He never made it into senior management and was a production line worker for the majority of his working life.

Oh and within those 31 years he had 4 weeks off sick. 1 week flu and three weeks Kidney failure where he spent two weeks in intensive care.

They don't make em like that anymore.

You're right, they don't make 'em like that anymore!! My Dad was much the same, hard work, investing (in his pension) and not spending more than he made. A good combination for retirement.

It was an attitude that our "youth" don't seem to have! Unfortunately for them!

That's cuz our "youth" grew up in an age of credit cards and bill me later, as well as with a government (in the U.S.) that is trillions of dollars in debt setting such an example!!!!

Yes. The company who did not renew my contract have said they are happy to bring me in when they need me. Also a local tv repair business has offered a few days a month.

I've been watching Breaking Bad, there's always methamphetamines.

I think if you can make it past the first few months and build up enough of a stream of business through word of mouth, you'll be able to do it. As long as what you're fixing is cheaper to fix than to buy new people will pay to fix it. I used to do component level cell phone repair work back in the late 80's and early 90's. People would think nothing of spending 800 bucks to fix a five thousand dollar cell phone, today we throw out cellphones. Computers are just about there as well.

I'm sure there's an opening too for setting up computers and advising on phones and iPads for people who are clueless................and you know if you go into the shop you'll get the sales patter and not the advice you need.

You could make a fortune helping people with to set-up their computers. Point them in the direction of the operators manual and charge them £50 a pop. Call your customers clients and you could charge £75 a pop!
