In my job when referencing work done previous to my employment I use the term "we"
For example "we did this logo for so and so in 2004"
I don't see an issue with that.

Not unless the biggest factor in the logo you did was an employee he personally has to emulate and that's why it sounds odd

We, mclaren in 2009 had Lewis, the same we now has Button so unless he is saying he is already adding as much input as Lewis did, what he is implying is a big lie

We in this context is not just McLaren the team but Mclaren plus driver

We did well in 2009 and we will do it again especially as I have replaced Lewis
