Mark Hughes has heard a rumour that Michelin are interested in F1 for 2014......... Interesting!!!!

Which vendor said there wasn't enough time for them to com in 2014, Falken? Hankook?

Hancook I think.

With the greatest of respect to Hankook, arent Michelin a much bigger company who could probably produce the tyres quicker?

Personally i'd like to see Michelin vs Pirelli - give the teams the choice of manufacturer, then at least they can't complain as much when the tyres arent as good as they had choice of company!

Personally I'd like to see a tyre war back in F1 but I doubt it'll happen as the FIA/FOM want control over tyres and how they perform!

Of course, this will only really be any good if the tyre rules themselves are looked at and changed.

Exactly. I don't see why this is a big deal.

Michellin I think has the precedence to come in and make their own demands. If the rumor is true in the first place it's because they don't want to renew Pirelli's contract. it's either that or admit they screwed the pooch, so it's easier to bring in another vendor. Michelin has a tremendous presence in racing and hopefully they'll push really hard to bring in 18 inch tires as a condition to being ready by January. :cloud9:

1 year away actually might be not enough time to switch a manufacturer.

The best solution in all of this would be open competition. Let the teams decide which tyres they want to use and which company. If the tyres slowed the cars down like they have this year, they would obviously change it quickly. Their name and reputation is directly at stake whereas now it is as if they don't care and blame other factors other than themselves.

Hey Michelin if you do come in, I promise my next set of tyres will be from your retail stores. Hope that makes your mind up. :hehe:

I still believe that teams should be given a choice as to which tire supplier better suits their car/drivers!
I can't buy into the argument that it would be more expensive, because instead of putting all their eggs
into one big basket, there would be two smaller baskets with the same number of eggs. If anything, it
makes more sense for everyone concerned (even if it doesn't make dollars for the sole supplier!)!!

Having said that, IF that's not on the cards, I have to insist that teams be allowed to test current tires with
their current car!! And that their current drivers test both simultaneously!

It's ridiculous to use a car that is two-years old and test drivers to accumulate data about tire performance!!
We may as well take Ecclestone up on his "idea" to flood the tracks to simulate rain!!
