Your are correct, the tires at Monaco were the soft and super-soft compounds. The difference between Monaco and Hungary is that at Monaco, even with tire differences, it is almost impossible to overtake. At Hungary you can definitely overtake. I very much doubt the Mercs could repeat their Monaco strategy.

If nothing else, I think Pirelli will have the time to bring consistent tires to Hungary as I think a bad set of tires is what did Merc in last race. We'll at least get the rubber to be used for the remainder of the season, hard or soft, we've now got the 2012 compounds with the kevlar construction.

A little pedantic but, if we are to believe Pirelli, then we have 2013 compounds on a kevlar belt construction on the rears while the fronts have remained the same as they were always kevlar.

We may get to see another shake of the tree in Hungary.

Are you sure about that...the first corner is the only possibility. The Mercs only need to push from the penultimate corner, KERS their ar$e out of the last corner...and assuming it's a 1-2, the 2nd Merc can DRS the whole way through with the 3rd car having zero chance of even thinking about it.

Okay, but first they need to qualify 1-2 and retain 1-2 after the first corner.

Wouldn't it be cool to see a number of teams go the Ferrari route and do 3~4 stops this Sunday instead of a long 1~2 stop conservative strategy?

I think Mercedes should go that route....use their pace, and since they don't know these tyres well anyway why not just roll the dice.

On the other hand....it's a tough track to overtake on, and if they can dictate the pace then....why not. Choices, choices....

I think Mercedes should go that route....use their pace, and since they don't know these tyres well anyway why not just roll the dice.

On the other hand....it's a tough track to overtake on, and if they can dictate the pace then....why not. Choices, choices....

Difficulty in overtaking is a reason to change to a strategy of more stops. Having more stops a team can have more flexibility of when they stop, thereby more flexibility in putting their car on a section of track with more clear road ahead.

I don't think its worth the extra 20-25 seconds for an extra pit stop just to have a luxury of a 'clear road' after the stop......

Disagree slightly, an extra stop only costs 4 seconds more than it used to. A fresh set of tyres can gain you 2-3 seconds a lap. So in 1-2 laps you can negate the difference.

Also, while I agree its hard to pass on evenly worn tyres, if one driver has a clear tyre advantage over the one ahead, they will get better traction out of the last corner, be quicker under acceleration then have the DRS to get them past into Turn 1.
