The US Supreme court is hearing two cases that will heavily impact gay marriage. One from California that would settle the constitutionality of states banning gay marriage. The other is a challenge of DOMA (the very conservatively named Defense Of Marriage Act) That was signed into law in 1996. Stating that the federal government could not recognize a state marriage that wasn't between a man and a woman. In other words, the federal government, would not give gay married couples employed by the federal government, the military etc, the same benefits it gives a straight married couples.

So if you're a legally married gay couple. (in the US 9 states now legally recognize gay marriages and 30 states explicitly outlaw gay marriage) you cannot get benefits if your partner is killed in action, you cannot get health insurance through your spouse, you cannot get any types of benefits all of which are given to heterosexual married couples. You can't even be allowed to go see your spouse if they're in the hospital where only family members are allowed visitation, an estimated 1,100 benefits that can be denied gay couple because of this law the explicitly makes the federal government treat those marriages differently.

So it's the same "equality" symbol that has been used for years but turned red for the critical nature.

I changed my avatar today in celebration of DOMA being overturned and prop 8 being dismissed.

So is anyone trying to watch Top Gear on BBC2? There's a poxy ping-pong game on that's running late. Why can't there be a thunderstorm right now over London?! :irked::banghead::thumbdown:

It's all rather annoying really.

Top Gear is back on? cool, I could use some chill out fodder. Hope they blow things up, and hit things with hammers.

Well if there was a thunderstorm they would just close the roof. You'd still be watching tennis.

New series started last week. It featured the fastest car on the planet - a Toyota Corolla. It's still on the iPlayer.

Annoyingly, tonights episode won't be on the iPlayer until after it's shown on TV (which will be God knows when thanks to the yawnfest that is Wilbledom).

Oh, you sure it won;t just be put up at 9pm?

I thought the tennis was over anyway. Trophy ceremonies don't take that long too.

Thanks for the info though.

WTF! watched TG on ipayer and driving the ferrari showing where you can drive it, he says he's 40 miles outside London but he's driving through Pitlochry in another country. I only recognised it when he passed one of the pubs.

While he might get away with lying about where he is I doubt he'd get away with sticking a Ferrari badge on something else.
