But Alonso when did he lose to a team mate? or are we talking about the 2007 even points with Hamilton?

you don't count 2007 as a defeat? F1 and the FiA do.

No...they were "even". The Alonso fans will cling on to the points table as hard as they can even though the points almost never give us the full picture.

My apologies, I forgot to run my post through legal and compliance. Let's reword it, "has Alonso ever lost in points* to a team mate?"

* in this comparison I accept even points as a draw, in other words not lost. This however does not mean that I would like to ignore the fact that in the FIA standings Lewis Hamilton was higher than his team mate Alonso at the results of season.

I was responding to WB saying they were indeed considered "even" on points...I wasn't being sarcastic or anything. So you passed "legal and compliance", proceed.

I might have misinterpreted it but I though you hinted that I'm an Alonso fan. That kind of counts as a slight insult, like calling an Englishman French or Irishman English. Not a reason enough to get violent but still slightly upset.

Well I don't take this stuff too personally or seriously, so apologies if I insult anyone.

I have no idea which driver you support....I simply mentioned Alonso fans (Again, to Whats Burning) since we were talking about Alonso.

About 2007 and the result. If Barcelona and Real Madrid tied on points at the end of a season but Barca had a better goal difference would Madrid fans say for years to come that they had tied on points that year?

Or would they admit they had been beaten that year according to the rules of the sport?

Any Alonso AND Madrid supporters on here?

That would be a hard mistake to make unless the Englishman had a white flag and was running away

Great driver, real racing aristrocrat with nothing to prove and apparently no chips on his shoulder. Possibly the best son of a previous champion ever, along with Damon Hill. He however started young unlike Damon and must surely be ranked higher if he wins a WDC.

I reckon he has the perfect foil/teammate in Lewis. They have know each other and have been friends since teenagers. They have different backgrounds and are very close in speed and skills. However the backgrounds could be the clue to the ultimate difference between them.
Nico grew up in Monte Carlo, always destined to race F1. Speaks many languages, comfortable and confident of himself. Lewis from a background were he had to work very hard without guarantee that his skills would be enough. They are good friends because they are different yet similar.
As fast as each other, the reason Nico has been in slower cars compared to Lewis would be that Lewis is just that much grittier and hungrier. Would Nico carve through the field like Lewis' trademark drives, or would he be less hungry? Also he goes missing in races often, pointing to trhe same thing

People who are surprised by how fast he is just have to try thinking of him as part Finnish and not German, and suddenly its no surprise

And he is now at a top team. Over the next few year I think we will see lots of wins. I doubt he will win a WDC with Lewis around unless something happens with Lewis. Its very possible therefore that Nico will leave Merc and become the undisputed number 1 at abnother team. Maybe Lotus to start then RBR after Seb, or even Ferrari after Alonso.

Top guy, and if he beats Lewis he deserves it though I cannot see this once things settle. However he already proves he is better than Lewis' teammates bar Alonso, but theres lots of time left

That's because you had to do a search on Barbie. Anyway Nico has stepped it up and the new dynamic duo of F1 will bring a WCC to Mercedes.

Great timing with this thread.....

Nico Rosberg out to 'annoy' leader Sebastian Vettel

Mercedes driver Nico Rosberg says he is out to "annoy" championship leader Sebastian Vettel, but is not yet thinking about his own title challenge. The German, who has won two of the last three races, said he was simply focusing on continuing his good form.

"It's too early to say we are title contenders and I'm just focusing on keeping the momentum going," he said, ahead of Sunday's German Grand Prix. I don't really want to speak about titles yet."

"Short term, I just want to annoy Red Bull and Sebastian by being ahead of them race by race."

Rosberg won the British Grand Prix last weekend, after inheriting the lead when initial leader Lewis Hamilton, his team-mate, suffered a tyre failure and then Vettel retired with a gearbox failure.

The teams are using a new design of tyres at the Nurburgring this weekend after six drivers suffered failures during the race at Silverstone. Rosberg said he expected the tyres, which will use Kevlar rather than steel in their construction, would alter the relative competitiveness of the teams. The revised tyres were run briefly in a damp practice session in Canada last month. "It's early days," he said. "We ran them in Montreal but didn't learn much because of the weather. We need to run them as much as possible in relevant circumstances but it will be interesting and it may shuffle things around a bit."

"It's very likely it will have an impact and it will be interesting. Possibly it will mix things up a bit and it's also an opportunity to understand it better and earlier. Hopefully the different tyre is safer for all of us, Silverstone was not we want or satisfactory. How much different or better the tyres will be is hard to judge. It's hard to know [whether it will favour one team over another]. Pirelli have to supply tyres and if you like it or not is up to you."

Vettel said Red Bull had sourced the problem that led to a broken fifth gear affecting his gearbox.

"We've understood and fixed the problem," he said.

And there's a call out for the shitstorm to come when if and when Rosberg beats Lewis. I'm on the side of that shitstorm never getting here, not because there's no chance of Nico beating his team mate, but because Nico is a head's down drive the car that's underneath you, don't complain, don't blame the team, don't blame the team mate kind of guy that will give you his best all the time, even though his best comes up short sometimes.

How do you criticize a guy like that?

Always had a respect for Nico Rosberg, ever since day 1. First race, fastest lap in a Williams. In 2006. BAM
