What was with the crowd cheering Vettel's retirement??? (I was cheering when Hamilton's tire exploded)..

I think you made your point there :hehe:

LOL...cars shouldn't be riding kerbs, another quote worth framing for a hearty laugh. What are kerbs for genius, decorations?

The white line denotes the edge of the track. Running over teh kerbs exceeds the confines of the track. Laugh all you like but it is ture.

Good, so we agree then, that it seems unlikely to be a kerb issue.

Erm, no.

It is only true to an extent. Cars are only deemed to have exceeded the track limits when all four wheels are over the white lines. So two wheels on each side of the line (i.e. two wheels on the kerbs) is perfectly legal and indeed normal for almost 100% of motor racing series. To try to argue that cars should not touch the kerbs is, to be frank (and not Allan :D ), ridiculous in the extreme.

Well it's not ridiculous but thank you for taking the time to respond like an adult rather than write a childish snide comment in your signature. :)

Put it this way, at street circuits, the white line is either a wall or a barrier.

The street circuit that is Silverstone. :wavey:

Completely dumb argument that kerbs are not to be run over, so it's your fault etc

It's like saying run off areas should have walls. If a kerb was a barrier it would be, I.e. high enough obstacle, there is a reason kerbs are not made purposely dangerous. The whole idea is that unlike a street circuit where the white line is no go, high speed flowing circuits have an alternative to the terminal wall

So if you cut the curb it's slower because the surface is not track, but doesn't end your race. And it's a tradition, which is why there is a rule that clearly states that all 4 wheels need to be beyond the line to be off track

If it made any sense to enforce corner barriers in a high speed circuit there would be a pavement not a ridge

Today was ridiculous. I think it's time for the FIA to stop asking Pirelli to make tyres that wear quickly and force more pit stops, because it's becoming dangerous. Some of the teams also need to take a good look at this and stop blocking a move that may improve the safety aspect; true, it may negatively affect their championship position come end of the season, but given how bad it was today and how many high-speed circuits this could be repeated at, is it really worth taking the risk? I'm just glad there were no injuries as a result of the failures today.

On to the racing, it's very unfortunate that Hamilton suffered that tyre failure as I think he would likely have gone on to win the race. It's also a shame that Vettel retired, but he still has quite a healthy lead in the championship and if the season continues this way, he looks like he'll be in a good position right through. I'm happy for Rosberg to get yet another win, even if the circumstances aren't quite the same as his other two. Mercedes look to have the strongest driver pairing at the front of the grid, so now they just need to keep rolling out good cars consistently and they're sorted. It's looking more and more like my pre-season prediction about them was wrong, and I'm happy for that to be the case. Finally, awesome final stint from Webber. I really though he was going to get Nico at the end. :)

Today's race... 10 of 10. Pain and all, we've got our Canada of 2011 right here.

Yeah but this time a rightful winner. :drink:

Not to take anything away from Rosberg, but today the F1 gods really wanted him to win. :hehe:

If Lewis had ended Alonso and Rosbergs races by crashing into them, and there had been some rain and Kimi had wrong tyres, and another couple of safety cars then we might have had Whitmarsh in tears telling us Lewis had just driven the best race in the history of F1 etc etc and how he was so clever and disturbingly attractively tanned

A really good race, and speaking as a tifoso, a good result all things considered.

Lots of breaks went for and against different drivers so it was up to the ones who made most of what cards they were dealt. Having blown the start rather badly Nico kept his head down and took the most of his opportunities later in the race, that's good driving in my book and another good win by him.

An awesome drive by Webber after yet another car start problem.

Also really good drive by Dan, that will help put him in a Red Bull seat next year.

What a start from Felipe, and also a great recovery after his tire blow out.

Alonso drove such a smart race, and despite his bad luck on how the last sc worked out for him he did an excellent job to get on the podium.

I'll hand out spankings to Pirelli for the changes they made to the tires here, it could have proved far worse. Changing tires to help some teams reduce pit stops was always a flawed concept.

The biggest spanking goes to the race officials for robbing us of a potentially superb finish. They took too long to get the sc in at the end, we could easily have had 2 more laps of racing. Lewis catching Nando, Nando catching Webber and Webber catching Nico. It could have been a legendary two last laps.

By far the most thrilling gp i've been to, the tyre situation is beyond a joke but what came from it made that worth seeing.

Lewis was robbed of that win. That's the second time the tyres have screwed his race. Screwed lots of others too. 9 failure or close calls over the weekend. That's RUBBSH!!!
That said great dives from, Lewis and Webber. Nico didn't put a foot wrong and was lucky the team spotted a tyre about to fail and got him in. Congratulations to Nico and Mercedes. Hugely encouraging result for the team. Mercedes are looking good!! Felt sorry for Di Resta, loosing that quali position was harsh. Will write more later

Very good race. Crazy with all the tire / curb issues.

The one thing I noticed is - at the end (after the last safety car) is some of the best racing I have seen in F1 in the last couple years. All the top dogs (excepting Vettel) were absolutely giving it and the racing was amazing. Not just the toe to toe battles, but also the way they actually ran the race as quickly as they could. A wonderful refreshing change from the more strategic races that we see usually.
