Now the beeb have been offered F1 coverage and it's set to start from 09 (how did ITV upest Bernie? Why did he go to the BBC?) I want to start a capaign for them to take Martin Brundle but leave James Allen unemployed.

Who's with me?

I've just emailed BBC Sport - please all do the same!

Im up for keeping Martin-def!!
He did upset Mosely last year and Max complained to ITV and tried to revoke his license(Something like that :? ) Dont know if thats got anything to do with it-surely not :|

Poor old James Allen, he doesn't seem terribly liked, does he? In his defence I'd just say he does his best to make it exciting, but part of his problem is that no-one could have fully replaced Murray Walker. He goes over the top too often, and while with Murray it was endearing, with James it's a little irritating.

I think Brundle has now established himself as one of the best commentators on any sport, with a good balance of authoritative experience, forthright views and a dry wit, so the Beeb would be mad not to move mountains to hire him. Louise Goodman is another key person. Perhaps they could look at some print journos like Matt Bishop or Nigel Roebuck for the analysis stuff, although Blundell and Rider do a pretty good job at the moment. Rider is definitely contracted to ITV so I wonder what the situation there is.

To be honest though I'm surprised at the switch because I think ITV have done far better than the Beeb used to. I remember how it used to get switched between BBC1 and BBC2 all the time, and how sometimes the coverage was shortened to fit in with everything else. At least we now won't have to play second fiddle to Coronation Street though!

I'm delighted that the BBC is back, good ridence orange mustange sony advert that i've seen 1000 times already after one race.
Yes, I'd get rid of Allen but keep Brundle.

Lenny Kravitz does a good job in the pits with Louise so they can stay. Get Ben Edwards and Watson involved and it could be looking good next year.

I knew I'd seen that guy somewhere else! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2XDBngjyN6g:P

I quite like the Sony advert. Mainly because I'm a huge Iron Maiden fan and Can I Play With Madness is a really great song.

im not keen on Blundell-he could disappear but i dont really mind the others. Brundle is just in another league, really hope he stays.

Blundell is actually a very good asset - he's an ex-F1 driver, which makes him of great use (as we have already seen) in a number of the F1 Insight things that he has done alongside Martin Brundle.

Yeah but he keeps getting it wrong and is too opinionated. Brundel is an exF1 driver who does a much better job and sticks to the facts. Why are their names so similar!!
#36477
That's true, but you can't demonstrate things like overtaking and blocking with only one driver :P

If they could find another driver, then fine. But I think Blundell will stick around if they just commit some tealeafery and take the ITV crew over to the BBC. Which would be their best option, really.

I like James Allen and I think he has been unfairly criticized. Murray Walkers made mistakes as well and if he is not going to return to commentating when it switches to BBC then I think you should keep James Allen. Who else is there? Steve Rider is contracted to ITV so he will not cross over besides he will have plenty of premiership football to front next year anyway.

There are the odd comments here about the current coverage being the Lewis Hamilton show and even as a fan of Hamilton I can see why and find Blundell and Rider quite sickly to listen to in that respect and Allen talks nonsense most of the race that my brain just switches off from. I'd like to see them get Brundle, Kravitz and Goodman. I think I'd prefer to see Brundle co-commentating rather than on his own (no disrespect to him as I think he's great), I've not listened to the radio commentary for some time so I have no opinion on them.

On a slightly pedantic note, BBC have Premiership rights until mid-2010 at least. All ITV are gaining is the FA Cup and home England internationals...around 1.5 games a month on average.

Agree about JA, I think people are way too harsh on him. He can be irritating, but remember the campaign (albeit media led) after the 2000 German GP for Murray to retire (the mistake over the crashed Ferarri identification at the start despite a difference of around 15 grid placings)? I hope their is a role for JA at the BBC, and I'd like to see him in the pit lane again, although it could be argued where that would leave the impressive Ted Kravitz.
