ESPNF1 Lewis Hamilton says he would like to drive for Ferrari at one stage in his career but insists he is happy at Mercedes for now.

Having driven for McLaren since 2007 Hamilton made the switch to Mercedes for this season and is currently fourth in the drivers' championship. Having made the first move of his Formula One career so recently Hamilton said he wants to remain with Mercedes for a long time but admitted to F1 Racing that he shares the desire of many drivers in wanted to race for Ferrari one day.

"At the moment I can't see myself anywhere else because I'm really happy where I am," Hamilton said. "But what I can say is that throughout my racing career and through karting and everything Ferrari have always been one of the top teams and it's always a desire for any driver to drive for them.

"So anyone who gets that chance, no matter where you are or what car you drive, you look at a Ferrari and think: 'That's pretty cool.' But like I said, at the moment I'm really happy where I am and I hope Mercedes keep me for even longer."

Hamilton also said he'd be happy to race against any team-mate, especially Sebastian Vettel, when asked if he'd be willing to join him at Red Bull.

"I would go up against any driver. Any time, any place. Any team. Whoever it is, that's not a worry for me, I would have happily been Sebastian's team-mate. He has a great car, so it would have been a great experience."

...and spanky is left stammering.

Ugh...the same bloody spin drivers make in F1, I mean come on. While he was at McLaren 'this is the best team in the world'...and then he leaves saying he wants to 'start a fresh challenge at Mercedes like Schumacher did at Ferrari and achieve huge success' and now after 6 races "anyone would love to race for Ferrari"....if he really believes that now, f**k off already. Even McLaren has had more recent success compared to Ferrari, what have Ferrari won since 2007? Screw Ferrari, right now the team that KNOWS what they're doing is Redbull, and Mercedes is showing some serious signs of being the next big thing. If Lewis wants to jump ship again, he's free to leave and retire with 1 sorry bottom WDC.

To be fair on the chap, he says things about the present, the expected future, and the anythings possible future.

Present - At the moment I can't see myself anywhere else because I'm really happy where I am
Known future - I hope Mercedes keep me for even longer
Unknowable future - Ferrari have always been one of the top teams and it's always a desire for any driver to drive for them

If he had said 'at this point I cannot see myself ever driving for Ferrari because I am currently at Merc on a 3 year contract' Simon Fuller would think his brand building media classes hadnt got through to Lewis.

And ofcourse he would be getting slated left right and center for thinking that he is bigger than the most famous team ever

He could equally have said I would not say no to drive for my own team, but he wasnt asked that question

I think that most drivers have said at some point or another that they'd like to drive for Ferrari... I don't believe you can read anything into Lewis' comments!

My point being he was the odd one out who specifically stated that he doesn't buy into the "every driver wants to drive for Ferrari" hype. He said this while he was at McLaren, saying that he won't feel any regret if he never drove for Ferrari and doesn't understand why other drivers think that way. Not in these exact words but it comes very close.

Most probably this is a PR spin, but he's definitely flipped a bit in his approach to the media. Part of what made me a big fan of him was his approach to the Ferrari hype. Too bad.

One would've thought drivers would start saying "I would love to drive for Red Bull one day", but I guess it'll take many years for that to happen. Ferrari have over 60 years-worth of memories.

Its all part of his growth in the direction he has chosen. Playing the game, building a brand, new blog. And he is going about it in a way thats still Lewis I reckon. No sneaky, back stabbing, devious lazy manipulation of the press.

If he starts having steak dinner outings for the press I would get worried

Lewis was always under the wing at McLaren, always grateful, always towing the line, always trying to please. Whilst some of those traits will always remain, because that's Lewis, the boy is growing up.

You don't join Barcelona and then 1/4 way into the season say "Every player wants to play for Real Madrid!"

Interesting new slot in the front of the end-plate on the F138 rear wing appears at Friday practice in Silverstone.

That Ferrari just seems to lack high speed stability and traction

A good chance for Mercedes to catch up to Ferrari in the WCC. I hope.

Ferrari I thought after Canada looked very strong.

Their qualifying in Canada was a bit crap as well. I expect them to do better in the race, but like Lotus, Ferrari don't seem to be moving forward at the same rate as RBR and Merc.
