FIA will not announce any verdict today, we wont know the result until tomorrow!

To me that seems because it isnt clear cut, and they need more time to analyse statements/evidence.

Or because they want to make it seem like they're thinking about what they've already decided in back room deals two weeks ago.

Or they're weighing the consequences of a harsh verdict (Mercedes and/or Pirelli quitting F1 altogether).

It would be so sad to have only Ferrari and Renault engines on the grid next year.

This is the FiA we are talking about. The decision wont be one of rule enforcement. It will be a compromise that will placate all and probably please none.

Yeah but the Tribunal is independent and if Mercedes present a case which shows that the rulebook is not ironclad, all the FIA can do is CLARIFY their sh*t and move on. Right now, they have a serious issue as penalizing Mercedes will mean penalizing Pirelli, and there's no one out there who will be supplying tyres on short notice. They have their hands tied.

That's what Horner's role is supposed to be doing, exonerating Pirelli. Guess which team will be the next to do a private test? Interesting to note that it was mentioned that Ferrari's test was considerably more than 1000km and that Massa was used as a driver, so the only contention is the 2013 car and the FiA saying it could be used albeit apparently the wrong FiA guy.

I heard it was only De La Rosa that did the driving, definitely not Felipe or Fernando.

Here's the source.
Washington Post Harris also spoke at length about tests Ferrari conducted last year and this year with Pirelli, but wasn’t charged for by the FIA. His suggestion appeared to be of double-standards. Ferrari driver Felipe Massa drove in at least one of the Italian team’s tests with Pirelli, and they ran “significantly more” than 1,000 kilometers, he said.

Plea bargaining:

ESPNF1:
[...]
At the end of the hearing Mercedes claimed it should receive no more than a reprimand if it is to be punished, and offered to skip the Young Driver Test at Silverstone in order to prevent gaining an advantage over its rivals.

Yeah just seen that on twitter. And Pirelli have said they don't know what they're doing here because the FIA has no jurisdiction over them.

Mercedes: "We know we did wrong, please, please, please, please, please, please don't punish us, I'll be your friend!"

Pirelli:"Why are we here?"

That could also have been done before, what they've already decided in back room deals two weeks ago.
I buy into conspiracy theories...

I don't think that's what Mercedes were saying. I think they were saying, we dont think we're guilty, It wasn't our test but If yo feel we are guilty we only expect a light punishment , especially in view of what Ferrari have done. If Merc get a heavy punishment Ferrari have to. What did Ferrari do?-

Tested secretly just before Spain . Ok it was a two year older car, but not much slower and still apparently able TEST NEW FERRARI PARTS. :yikes: unlike Mercedes this was not restricted to tyres.

Tested last year for Pirelli with Massa at the wheel. This has only just come to light.

If Merc go down Ferrari have to follow, further down I'd say.

The Tyres would have reacted differently on the car Ferrari used and the car would have been different on the tyres so they obviously got less data than Mercedes, the car made the difference.

*If* Mercedes are suggesting they should get a reprimand and lose the young driver test, then they must be admitting guilt, why make such a suggestion if they did nothing wrong?

It was Pedro De la Rosa and not Massa driving. Technically there is no in season testing of a current car (Or last years car I think), I am not aware of any rules stating that you can't try out new parts at tyre tests, it does say in the teams codes that they can take part in tyre tests for the manufacturer, but they must abide by the other sporting regs stating that no one can use a current car or drivers at a tyre test which Merc did. I know you can't use any new parts (aside from vanity parts to make them look like current cars) on any display/show cars, which is why people don't test with them, but as in-season testing is banned APART from for a tyre manufacturer, there is more than likely a loop hole in the whole contract that doesn't state you can't use new parts at legalised testing times for tyre manufacturers on an older car.

Edit: Just noticed you said last year, pfft no one cares about last year

I suspect it would be nigh impossible to prove they tested new parts (unless the were clearly visible). It would be quite a bold and ultimately foolish charge for the tribunal to pursue.
