I wonder what someone who actually works for McLaren would say if they read this thread?

Just a thought.

Great contribution, dont discuss the topic, discuss the thread, next discuss the posters and moan?

As if anyone working at McLaren would not have already covered this ground and had their own thoughts etc. Or do you think everyone at the firm under board level is 100% sure exactly how things will pan out

What position do you hold in McLaren?

Please make yourself clear, are you saying that only McLaren employees are allowed to discuss the company? Or are you saying publicly available facts may not be speculated about

actually dont bother

No, I'm asking what position you hold in McLaren seeing as you seemingly have quite a deep insight into their inner workings?

I'd bet he doesn't work at McLaren but his contribution to the discussion so far has been head and shoulder above yours wouldn't you agree? It's a cart and horse problem and so far the discussion has remained very on point.

For a guy who doesn't even watch the races, you sure have a lot to say. :beans:

It's a legitimate question that I have asked your friend.

There's not really much to add. Someone said earlier that other teams (namely Ferrari and Williams) have/are going through lean times. It looks to be McLarens turn.

It would be impossible to pinpoint one single factor as to why McLaren are performing below where one would expect them to be. I would wager that designing a pretty much new car for this season rather than evolving last years car has gone against them and is a big factor. The car being designed with a driver, who is no longer with the team, in mind won't have helped. The end of the Mercedes engine deal and Honda coming in will have been a distraction. There are numerous reasons which will of course mount up. The management seems a bit weak - I don't think Whitmarsh is a bad team manager but he seems to lack the toughness , ruthlessness and single mindedness of the likes of Jean Todt, Ron Dennis and Frank Williams.

As for solving things, I guess continuity of drivers and other key personnel is a good starter for 10. It was reported a while back that Honda are already working with McLaren so that could put them in a good position for 2015 as they should be able to get the chassis and engine perfectly in-tune with each other. Guessing how long McLaren will continue as they are is just that, a guess. If the reg's were the same for 2014, you'd like to think they'd learn from where they went wrong ths season and improve massively. For all we know, their Silverstone updates could be fantastic and they'll be back at the pointy end of the grid. Equally, McLaren could be languishing in the mid-field for the rest of the season. I think it is fair to say that I doubt McLaren themselves know when they'll be back to being a serious contender.

Actually I do watch the races but you obviously know better.

I think we can all agree McLaren would be better off if the put me as team principle. I'd whip 'em into shape. I'm gonna go start a campaign right now.
