It really doesn't matter who is at fault, the point is that the terms have been breached, tyre testing is only allowed when a 2 year old plus car is used and a non-current-race-driver performs the test, so that's a double whammy right there. I suspect it might be a similar punishment to McLaren in 2007, MASSIVE fine and the team loses all it's constructors points while the drivers keep their points, that punishes the team and not the drivers, as employees they are simply following instruction.

If they lose all constructors points, that would mean Marussia or whoever ends up last could get some prize money...

Marussia needs the money more than Mercedes... I think that Marussia would make a decent jump with some constructors $$$, unlike Caterham, who have disappointed despite the added cash!

Well I think it's the FIA for not getting their rules straight!

Heh, good old Hamilton :hehe: He sure knows how to keep his mouth shut, and things to himself :P

Rosberg, just contradicted a lot of people, if he really said that.

What? How do you figure that one out.

It's rc's motherly instinct to protect LH from harm :hehe:

So it was Nico and not Lewis that let the cat out the bag to supergrass Vettel.

I wonder if, as reported somewhere Nico did most of the testing with Lewis flying in near the end. If so could this explain Nicos sudden confidence and speed at Monaco?

And more importantly could this mean we see the Mercs lapping the whole field in the next few races?

I truly hope Ross did his maths correctly on this one and gets a wrist slap or pocket money fine, as we could be looking at a 2009 DD style advantage till the others catch up.

Can FIA really allow a tribunal to punish Merc heavily? or will it look better if an external tribunal finds that it was a misunderstanding between FIA and Merc/Pirelli and conveniently decide procedures and regulations need to be made clearer, end of story, racing incident.

Is Bernie planning to visit Germany anytime soon? :hehe:

the DDD was never illegal I believe, not sure it was Brawn's actual idea anyway.

And well, Mercs lapping the whole field? Vettel did a lap 2 seconds faster than anyone in the race, and well, lets face it, a lot of Monaco was a massive train behind Rosberg.

You really think Mercedes have gained that much info from the test? That's hilarious.

They've told teams they cant test with a current chassis but They've said Pirelli can test with a current car. Doh??so long as all teams are informed and given a chance. Pirelli said they did ask all teams at the beginning of the season and again later, and are expecting to test with other teams throughout the year. So they have given all teams a chance. Mercedes said they asked for permission. Cloudy silly rules again by the FIA kept deliberately vague to give them the opportunity to manipulate things as they see fit.

Yeah its unlikely, but consider this, the Merc was possibly the fastest car over a lap. They and pirelli have spent 1000kms optimising a tyre design. Its not madness to think that the big risk Ross took with that test etc could have resulted in Merc solving their tyre issue. Certainly they have possibly sorted out the tyre issue on the 'type of tyre' Pirelli will wheel out soon.

1000kms of 'unregulated' testing data is a heck of a lot of FP sessions that the other teams dont have.

Mentioning the DD was to illustrate how Ross gained a big aero advantage by exploiting the rulebook even after warning the FIA.

And Seb was the only driver going for glory in the last few laps. we dont know how fast the Mercs could gone also if they had thrown caution to the wind for the last lap

So if it was Nico that did most of the testing and Merc gained a better understanding of their car and the quali pace advantage can be sustained through the race without chewing tyres then the gain could be a second or two.

We will soon see

Merc facing International Tribunal even after "getting permission from the FIA" for the test. If this is indeed true, how in the hell are they going to spin it around to throw Mercedes into the pit.

Still can't see how Mercedes could've been so careless to expose themselves this way...I'd be very surprised if they don't have something up their sleeves to avoid a significant penalty.

The regulations are vague always, to allow the FIA leeway in fixing the show

The international tribunal is Lawyer lead and so it's even better for Merc because any lawyer will look at F1 rule wording etc and if there is any ambiguity or even a slim chance of misleading info swapped between FIA and Merc they as lawyers and not showmen have to give merc benefit of doubt

And it's been said that tyres are so important that understanding them can be a second or two advantage, then it makes sense that if Merc get away with it there is a big pay off.

Ferrari did their own test and the next race were both on podium with even a massa looking super fast.

Merc do a test with Nico and we saw the result in Monaco quali confidence which was masked in the race, I really see the Mercs taking a big step forward here and at Silverstone with the 'new' tyres

Also didn't the boss of Daimler talk about thinking outside the box to solve the tyre issue? I'll bet there is a plan here, we seen the potential cost, where is the payoff?

The more this goes on the odder it gets. I have said it before, if it was all legal and above board why was it kept quiet?

Pirelli could just say "we asked them to do a test. We tested with the car and did not know it was the 2013 car"

I can not imagine that teams would just ignore and not respond to emails sent from their partners. Maybe they sent the email to the cleaner over christmas.

Mercedes seem very bullish about this so they must be confident. Almost Brawn DD confident.

Why wear anonymous helmets? (Allegedly)

Don't Nico and Lewis know the rules enough to know that it was against them. Or did they believe the team? Someones head is going to roll. Maybe it is Lauda's way of getting rid of Ross?!?

Mercedes if they sre found guilty going to do a Renault and sell up?
