Unfortunately I don't see multiple tyre suppliers happening any time soon. Today's FIA seems to like to mandate design and type of tyre they want teams to use, that wouldn't be viable for multiple tyre makers, what's the point of two or more manufacturers making tyres to the same spec? Sadly F1 is slowly moving towards a spec series with every passing year!

And all it took was a potential safety issue with tires that were pushed too much to the edge. Deja vu all over again.

tyres that were pushed to the edge? I'm not so sure, if they were pushing the tyres to the edge they'd only manage 1 or 2 laps maybe more failures too, to get them to last any more laps than that they're having to keep them so far from the edge the drivers don't know where they are with them. That's my take on it anyway.

Why would FIA *not* want Pirelli making the tires anymore? Pirelli has done exactly what FIA wanted extremely effectively, and have made significant adjustments every year to improve the spectacle.

What's there to disagree with? I'm not saying I like it or dislike it myself, but we all know it's what the FIA wanted.

Yes they have. They've produced a tyre to replicate that race in Canada 2010 when Michelin got the spec wrong and the front runners had to come in early, and that's what they were asked to replicate. The thing is that was random and unexpected and from a mistake in calculations. What we have currently is contrived, people don't like It and also there problems. Problems of delamination and safety.
So yes Pirelli have done what the FIA asked, but now the FIA don't like the criticism. manipulation of races and cars driving slow is bad for the spor and fans dont like it.
They haven't signed a contract with Pirelli for next year and are trying to pay them less than the agreed amount.

Even if this is all true, the FIA can just re-instruct Pirelli in regards to what it wants from the tires and would almost certainly get better results than starting all over with another manufacturer. Pirelli has access to the last three years of data and testing to make different tires. Anyone else would be starting at LEAST three years behind, which is significant. In other words, none of what you mentioned is a criticism of Pirelli in particular, but in the direction FIA decided to take on their own.

OK, now that I can believe, in which case I imagine they'll hash it out eventually and this will be a non-story soon enough. Occam's Razor.

Pirelli has confirmed the construction of its tyres will remain unchanged at least until the Hungarian Grand Prix, scrapping its initial plan.

The Italian company will take the hard and medium tyres to the British Grand Prix, while it will use the medium and softs in Germany next month.

For Hungary, Pirelli will take the hards and the mediums once more.
