With that I mean many of us here who complain about how gimmicky and tire dependent the F1 races have become and that drivers can't really race anymore because they have to conserve the tires, etc., etc.

Not me

Translated from the French site: Horner responds to Alonso's burn.

The Austrian team, which has won all three years, sees the competition is a little closer than 2013. It puts pressure on the manufacturer Pirelli, according to her manager about their difficulties. Alonso is just mocked this week.

'' When you win easily for several years, it is difficult to lose later, you forget how it's done. Some have cried a great car but the last three poles belong to another (Mercedes), "said the Spaniard.

Christian Horner, team principal of Red Bull, is aware of about the double world champion. He told a Spanish radio.

'' I do not think we are bad losers. In sport, you win, then you lose. When you lose, you work harder and you do not complain of yellow flags, "he quips, referring to the Brazilian Grand Prix 2012 season finale, when Ferrari asked the FIA to consider a exceeded Sebastian Vettel made according to the Scuderia, the yellow flag.

Nice one Christian.

To be fair to Red Bull and Vettel, they have always said that their run of success will eventually come to an end.

Alonso just sounds like a jealous little punk saying stupid stuff like that.

[What's Burning?]

I don't think it's jealousy that's driving the comments.

ESPNF1:

Christian Horner says he believes Mercedes carried out its Pirelli tyre test "in an underhand way" and hasn't complied with the Sporting Regulations.

Red Bull and Ferrari protested against Mercedes' test with Pirelli before the Monaco Grand Prix, with Mercedes then going on to win the race. Horner said the timing of the protest showed just how strongly Red Bull felt about what had occurred and that in his view the rules regarding testing are "very clear" and have been ignored.

"What's wrong is that a team, in an underhand way, consciously tested tyres that were designed for this year's championship," Horner said. "We view that the testing rules are very clear in the Sporting Regulations and when you enter the championship at the start of the year you sign up to those regulations.

"In our opinion, in doing that test, Mercedes hasn't complied and therefore we protested before the race because we wanted it to be clear that it wasn't a question of what result they have and that at the first opportunity we had to put in a protest; we put it in because we want clarity."

With the matter referred to the FIA, Horner emphasised that one the contracts he believes Mercedes to have broken is solely between the teams and will also now need revisiting.

"We talk an awful lot about saving costs and we spent three hours on Friday talking about in-season testing and trying to find a solution and it turns out one team has already done a huge amount of it. There also is a testing agreement, that may as well be declared null and void now, which is a contract between the teams that isn't governed by the FIA and that obviously hasn't been respected either."

[What's Burning?]

Translation... It should have been us Pirelli approached for this test, not Mercedes. A kettle, pot situation to say the least, but this is what the business end of F1 is about, nothing out of the norm here.

[andrew]

The actual translation is Merc and Pirelli should have been open about the test. Fair enough comment from Horner.

Horner better not preach ethics/integrity/straight forwardness to anyone else in the paddock.

[What's Burning?]

So the team that spends the most amount of money in the sport is worried about costs? And it's all Mercedes' fault, don't blame Pirelli.

ESPNF1 Red Bull team principal Christian Horner says Mercedes has to take the blame for the tyre testing row and not Pirelli.

Pirelli requested a 1000km tyre test with Mercedes in order to work on potential safety fixes from the Canadian Grand Prix onwards and its 2014 tyres. Red Bull and Ferrari protested that Mercedes was in breach of regulations having used a 2013 car for the test, and Horner said it didn't matter if Pirelli is allowed to carry such a test.

"Your contracts with your suppliers are irrelevant - in our opinion - to the commitment of a team," Horner said. "When it enters the world championship it's the team's responsibility to comply with the regulations. Irrelevant of what the contracts say it's the team that is there to comply. The issue isn't so much with Pirelli, it's more that a team has purposely tested a current car at a current circuit in our view in breach of the regulations."

Horner added that his main concern was that if a loophole was there to be exploited it would lead to the return of expensive in-season testing, having estimated the test will have cost potentially over a million pounds.

"Obviously they have a contract with each of the teams that allows them to do 1000km of testing. The small problem is that the regulations don't - in our opinion - allow you to do that. I think the danger with this is we'll suddenly all go back, open up testing and that just introduces a lot more costs."
