Interesting: the topic is team orders at McLaren and within a few posts the McLaren lambs turned it into a mudslinging against Ferrari

see Massa retirement thread for Ferrari team orders

That has nothing to do with this thread mate  .

thanks for the heads up buddy

There was no need for team orders today, however it would be foolish to think Heikki doesn't know he's been brought into the team to play nice with Hamilton and take points away from Lewis' rivals.

It was obvious during that pre-race interview where Lewis and Heikki were sitting on the couch playing with each other's balls acting all chummy for the camera. It was overcompensation after the fiasco of last year. You could tell from Heikki's responses he's been brought in as Lewis' rear gunner.

Let me see if I have this right. It's ok to say that "of course McLaren is using team orders to allow Hamilton to win" but it is not ok to point out that historically over the last quarter century, McLaren has often had the 2 fastest drivers in F1 as teamates and McLaren let them race one another with the only team order being not to take each other out. Furthermore, it is not ok to point out that over that same time period when Ferrari has the fastest driver in F1 they paired him with someone other than the next best driver in F1 and blatantly used team orders for Schumachers benefit.
I didn't even mention the 2002 Austrian GP!

Ferrari have always had the balls to come out and be honest about how their team structure works. MacLaren are trying to ensure they win the support of all the Ferrari haters out there, by offering them something different.

I don't like how MacLaren think we are idiots, nobody believed "The gentlemen's agreement" excuse with Hakkinnen and DC back in 1997.

The real F1 fan's know that every team has a pecking order, the teams that say they have no team orders are appealing to the masses that don't really know how F1 teams are run.

So what was the pecking order at McLaren in 1988 and 1989 when both Senna and Prost were aboard? What was the pecking order last year with Alonso and Hamilton?
Ferrari has never had the 2 fastest drivers simultaneously. They even made Rubens practically stop in 2002 in Austria to let Michael through for the win.
I'll stand by my conviction that McLaren use team orders less than any other top team. They also have enough guts and confidence to have the very best drivers as teamates without using the cop out of hiring one fast guy and one slow guy.

I'm not saying MacLaren have never had the situation where there are no team orders, I'm saying they have always said they never have team orders and that is obviously a lie.

Yeah but now they all have a chance to see a Brit win so secretly team orders will exist and poor Kovalainen will have to yield to Hamilton. Wait and see. They wanted Hamilton to win over Alonso last year but couldn't exactly get the Spaniard to agree as he Alonso was actually the double world champion and like any world champion is going to yield to a God damm rookie driver. Pleeeeease!

Mclaren say that kovi and lewis will be treated equally and i am more inclined to believe them than believe Ferrari. However there is no doubt that Lewis is the clear leader in the team and maybe has preference when it comes to race strategies but if kovi has a shot at winning i'm sure the team will let him

Of course they will let their drivers race! That has always been their policy!

You can't have it both ways, either they have team orders and if you subsribe to that theory they would have favoured a known champion over a chance they took on a rookie. If they had done this from the beginning of last season they would have had the drivers championship. They chose not to. Thats their way. They let their drivers race and Lewis proved an equal to Alonso-better for most races.
If they did not give Alonso favoured status (and guarantee the championship) why would they be about to start doing that trick now? The arguements dont add up.

I would imagine McLaren's policy is pretty much what it has always been, which I interpret to mean:
1. Equality of equipment at all times
2. Precedence on race strategy before the race starts goes to the fastest qualifier
3. Precedence during the race goes to the leading car
