It's like deja vu all over again for McLaren, just like 2007, the rambunctious young driver and the established world champion. Although it's the zero calorie version of the events. :hehe:

Contrast the behaviour of Webber and Hamilton in that incident with the way McLaren's Sergio Perez drove. He was like the man at the Casino - winning, winning, winning, thinking he was invincible, and then it all goes wrong.
On one level, Perez was making great moves. But in his pass on Ferrari's Fernando Alonso and attempt to overtake Kimi Raikkonen's Lotus he was taking advantage of people who were fighting for the championship, which Perez isn't.

He wants to show he is a racer but he was taking on those who know they need points at every race to stay in the battle for the championship, so in many ways it wasn't a fair fight.
When he finally collided with Raikkonen, the Lotus was in the middle of the road and carried on moving over to defend. It should have been clear to Perez there was no way through. You can argue that the only way that would have come off was if Raikkonen then moved away like the others did. Perez needed compliant people for the passes to work.
It's the same philosophy Michael Schumacher used to use - Michael would barrel down the inside, effectively saying: "I will pass you or we will crash." More often than not, people would move over. But not everyone races like that.
Perez will get away with it for so long and be the hero but eventually he will come undone - as he did in Monaco because Raikkonen didn't want to play the game.
I don't want to say Perez was wrong, but any one of the overtakes prior to that could have been exactly the same if the other drivers had done what Kimi decided to do.
In Alonso's case, Fernando could have made the chicane, but decided to slightly cut it to avoid hitting Perez. Which is why I think it was harsh to make Alonso give the place back afterwards.

Personally I thought that Monaco was dull; 17 passes in 78 laps, that's one overtake very 4 1/2 laps, I'm so happy that I didn't get up early to watch the race live, if I found the highlights dull, the full race would have put me back to sleep, it was only the crashes that made this race bearable. Anyway, controversy abound with Rosberg winning after the 'secret' tyre test, Perez proves himself to be a member of the crashi-bashi club with Maldonado and Grosjean. Really don't have much to say other than that, Monaco is a race that rewards a good qualifying position, any real overtaking moves usually up in contact with other cars or the barriers. As a spectator race it really is incredibly dull!

I think people bashing Monaco constantly is a little like people bashing Button constantly. Some like Monaco, some don't the calendar would be less without it, and a lot of overtakes does not necessarily a good race make, in my humble opinion.

I like Monaco, in general, but it's more of a qualifying only event I guess. It's hit and miss for the races, it'll either be great or boring, and the odds aren't too high for it being great.

There's a difference between stating an opinion and droning on about it, I expressed my view, that's the end of it for me...

Just saw the collision of Perez and Kimi, what was Perez thinking,of course Kimi wasn't doing anything wrong he can't just give him place to pass, and all of a sudden Perez tried to get in a place that isn't wide enough

Exactly! it was a desperate lunge that was only going to end badly.

I bet Button had a wry smile when he passed Perez and his ailing car at the pit entrance.

Yeah I think so,can't believe I actually thought Jenson liked Perez at the beginning of the season, otherwise has been proved since Bahrain :D

Perez clearly isn't a team player. Buttons frustration is understandable.

:rofl::rofl: I'd reverse the names in that post!

Of course you would. Fact is, Perez is looking like a liability for McLaren. His over eagerness could prove to be his downfall, especially if he has a proper crash with Button (which I don't think can be far off).

That's not even possible, Button is a cruise and collect specialist, he'll just jump out of Perez' way if he sends one down the inside... I read this nugget on a forum, so it must be true! :hehe:

I don't see Perez as part of the crash club. The move on Kimi was similar moves to Button and Alonso (which where good moves) it is just it went a little wrong with Kimi. People might say that button and alonso where a bit more switched on and saw him coming. Without seeing back to back footage it is hard to tell. I am sure if someone like Kobiashi pulled that move people would of loved it.

Yep, same move, it's just Alonso and Button made sure to get out of the way, which Kimi did the first time too. Thing is, the power was with the other driver, to get out of the way or not.

I think that last move was just half a car length too late. If it wasn't for that it'd have been another good move.

 see the Indy 500 later on Sunday - nobody could keep the lead for more than a lap, it was ridiculous.
