The one on Kimi though was just a tad too optimistic, from too far back. He may be still on a learning curve, however, I feel if that was Grosjean or Maldonado making that move, it would have been generally much more harshly received.

They have more history I guess. Perez has done some pretty impressive overtakes these last few races. The other two have just caused mayhem.

The move on Kimi was from way way back, those are the sorts of moves you see when playing on the playstation, especially when i'm behind wheel

By not finishing races Perez plays directly into Button’s hand. Team will develop the car towards the more consistent driver who brings it home instead of the one who might be faster but cannot finish a race.

In Monaco, he had already done 2 successful good overtaking moves, and 2-3 laps earlier he already once forced Kimi go straight over the chicane, and he really thought that next time it would work. Of course it could have been avoided by both of them; either Kimi giving up a position for free or Perez not driving over optimistically, so in that sense it is a racing incident, but I still think it was a stupid one, and initiated by Perez, and so seem to think all the experienced drivers.

Perez haven’t shown much of could results since he got signed, he had a chance to catch up with Button in points in Monaco but decided to risk it and DNF. Not to mention the denying your mistake, even Vettel says sorry when he screws up (whether he means it always is another story), Perez is in denial and thinks he did the right thing. Whitmarsh defends him of course , like a good boss should, but I doubt how long that will last if he doesn't bring in points or money.

So, Kimi Raikkonen thinks Sergio Perez should be "punched in the face". What does everyone else think?

McLaren driver Perez made a series of aggressive overtaking moves, in one of which he collided with Raikkonen.

Asked if the drivers would talk to Perez, Raikkonen said: "That won't help. Maybe someone should punch him in the face."

I would have to agree with Raikkonen. He needs to learn that he's racing in F1, not GP2.

Yeah I agree with this...Perez was kicking Buttons ar*e all over once again until that manouvre with Kimi...what matters to the team is points on the board, and Perez was doing everything right until that point. Most importantly I hope he learns from this...it looks more and more like Perez being the serious deal for McLaren to get some decent results this season. Because the other guy just drives around and waits for retirements/crashes to get some scrappy points.

Perez!!! Whoo woo!!! Sorry, I've had wine but I think Perez is the way forward for McLaren. All the best drivers get ripped apart for overtaking in the early days....but come a championship battle, they're the ones you want, not a cruise and collect driver.

But it does look like Perez is going to fall into the crashi-bashi category with Maldonado and Grosjean, to quote Pirelli "Power (speed) is nothing without control".

He's driven like this, ever since he signed for McLaren (including before he joined the team), and well, I think it has resulted in worse performances and results than his driving manner before.

Guess he won't be hitting Kimi any time soon though, at least.

Yeah I agree Racebabe, mclaren and whitmarsh will know that Sergio is their best bet for spectacular and mclaren style results. Jenson will get steady points by jumping out of the way etc but with a car that is 4th or 5th fastest that is guaranteed midfield.

Sergio is the only silver lining so far, the only thing they can point at and say 'we got an ace up our sleeves'

The smart thing to do would be to nurture him properly, build the team around him and get button to play a supporting role. Obviously button has control over whitmarsh and is not a team player so this won't happen

Anyway the good thing is that Sergio is obviously still on a learning curve and he clearly matches button, so if he decides that his only goal this year is to beat button, I would bet a fortune that he does. If however he tries to drag the car up the grid without a mclaren plan then button will be celebrating beating his rookie teammate on points whilst getting shown up at year end

Sergio is a better bet for mclaren going forward than a lame also ran, and he has commerce on his side

Yeah, Perez is in danger of being tarred with that crash-club brush, if he's not careful. That incident in Monaco was always going to happen, the way things were trending throughout the course of the race.

But this was in the days before meddling stewards handing out penalties like their lives depended on it... and Checo is no Aryton Senna!
