Hey, Pirelli asked for help to work out each others' issues and Merc complied, end of story. :D

Try telling that to Christian Horner, and see what the response is :P

I've posted his response above.

It's not the end of the story. The issue isn't Merc helping Pirelli. It's the secrecy that is.

"“I can understand Pirelli wanting to test the tyres – they’ve obviously got issues with the tyres. What’s disappointing is that it’s been done in not a transparent manner. A three-day test has taken place running a current car on tyres that are going to be used in the next Grand Prix. Irrelevant what you call it, that’s testing.

“First of all we need to deal with it through the proper channels, so that’s what we’ll look at doing.”

Asked if he thought the test had helped Mercedes, Horner said: “They’ve got both cars on the front of the grid, so it’s not hurt.”

Really Horner, so I guess a front row lockout for Merc is something NEW this season then.... :hehe:

Secrecy or not, no laws were broken, just suck it up and move on. I'm surprised no one was aware though....an F1 team testing at Barcelona I thought word would eventually get out in a matter of hours! Did they put a silencer on the exhausts or something. If anyone asked Brawn "why the secrecy" he can just respond with "No one asked" :hehe:

Paul Henbury says he's allowed to ask teams to help and it's not the only team he's done tests with....I couldn't copy that link so it's in a weird format

Ian Parkes (@ianparkesf1) tweeted at 11:15am - 26 May 13:

Pirelli's Paul Hembery claims test with Merc legal. Says a test "done before with another team" , with another team asked to help as well. (https://twitter.com/ianparkesf1/status/ ... 1953246208)

Now we know the answer as to why Mercedes have been quiet and not really joining the Pirelli bashing from other teams. Merc decided to get in bed with them. :groucho:

This brings up a niggling problem. How can Pirelli possibly develop their tyres to the maximum, without an up-to-date car with which to test?

This may well be a talking point for a fair while.

He killed it in the 2nd and 3rd sectors...but you can see he was way too 'neat' in the 1st sector which is where he lost all the time. With a bit more confidence at the start of the lap it would've been an easy pole for Lewis. But better with caution and a 2nd place than ending up hitting a barrier.
#360027
It was front tyre temps that cost Lewis pole,he purple for the 2 and 3 sectors but his tyres were only up to temperature after 1/3 of the lap,Nico nailed S1 and that was the difference

Did Maldonado get a penalty? I swear he qualified higher than 16th...

No, he qualified 16th. The commentators were laughing at how he was fastest in Q1 and then slowest in Q2.

Yeah I was gonna say, he was massively on the pace in Q1, how odd.
