Ecclestone is expecting them to return under what proof? Because it makes sense?

Hell it makes sense for me to start running a team because I'm aware of what F1 is, doesn't mean I will...

They have been in F1 before, with some success, pulled out at the peak of the economic crises, and their arch rival is in F1 right now grabbing poles but having serious issues during the race.

Their rivalry is awesome in the DTM series though. And those cars are much faster than I thought they were at first, the most recent race at Hockenheim was super.

The most recent DTM race was Donnington this weekend I believe.

Yeah I see where you're coming from, and I can see what Bernie is saying, they could come in; but it seems like he has no proof, by that logic I expect KIA and Chevvy to enter F1 because it makes sense.

It's just one of those quips which might ignite something. Most probably nothing will happen, but this is how the Honda rumour first gained some traction.

Ecclestone expects BMW to return

If they make a comeback and get a couple of decent drivers, it'd be the only thing which would make me stop supporting Merc + Lewis. :P

You can only support one team/driver?

There'll always be a primary and secondary. What I mean is demotion, not elimination. :D

IF BMW make a comeback, I'd think it would be as an engine supplier and on a small scale at that, at least in the beginning.

I still have my BMW Williams top. I'll hang on to that, I may be able to 'alter' it :D

BMW denies it is considering F1 return

BMW has denied it is considering a return to Formula One after Bernie Ecclestone said it would make sense for the German car manufacturer to rejoin the sport under the next generation of engine regulations.

Ecclestone's quotes followed the news that Honda will return to the sport in 2015 with McLaren, but BMW were quick to rubbish the story.

"I don't know with whom Bernie spoke," motorsport boss Jens Marquardt was quoted by Autosport. "We are right on top of our current programme, namely DTM. In GT sports cars at the Nordschleife and in ALMS as well as customer sport programmes we are posting super results.

"We have absolutely no intention of looking at other categories. We made a conscious decision to withdraw from Formula One. We orientated ourselves around that which our customers recognise as being BMW. There is no reason to alter this concept. It is currently running very well."

BMW made a successful return to DTM last year and only left Formula One three years ago in 2009. Marquardt said it would only consider a return to F1 if it felt the time was right.

"There are always good timing points at which to enter something. For example, we chose the right moment to make our entry into DTM because new regulations were on their way. Now F1 has new engine regulations. That suits Honda and has been noted. However, we have not reacted further."

It seems BMW and me are on the same wavelength...... I'm concerned now.

Bimmer were stupid to leave. The Bimmer team was coming along nicely.

Yes, and you knew better about their financial health and marketing strengths better than they did I suppose. :hehe:

Hmmmm, I remember them peaking with a solitary win in Montreal, and then falling away dramatically again in the following year.

But they did better than Honda though. I always thought it slightly odd that Honda left F1 after slugging away for so long. The 2009 chassis was looking like something special and they probably missed out there.
