Thought I'd start my 2nd race thread...in a bid to immediately forget the Spanish GP and look forward.

Anyone have any info on the tyres Pissrelli are bringing for the next one?

Pirelli can't build a tyre that actually works on an F1 car.

I'll never buy another Pirelli for my road car again. I own an (older) Merc and after Nico and Lewis's performance in Spain, I'd rather buy a Chinese remould.

Fooking pish!!

I would rather see a tyre that last for the whole race. Pitstops are so bloody boring imo.

They build what they have been asked to build.

So why aren't they asked to build a tyre that actually works Andrew??
What an embarrassment this is turning out to be.

Pirelli are not projecting their road tyre business in the best light imo. :hehe:

They've been asked to make tyres that are less durable in an attempt to increase the amount of overtaking. A big part of the problem lies with the lack of in-season testing so Pirelli have to bring tyres that are pretty much prototypes to each race which are then tested in the public eye during each race weekend. Had there still been in-season testing, the tyres could be tested in private with various teams as we used to see with Bridgestone. Drivers having to use both compounds during the race doesn't help things.

I wouldn't say the tyres are a total embarrassment. Yes, I'll agree that it is disappointing to see pitstops by lap 6 and various drivers struggling or not being able to go flat out for the entire race but there are some teams and drivers that are making the tyres work for them. Ultimately, the tyre situation is unlikely to change until the 2014 season (if anyone still watching by then, please let us know) so it'll be a case of the teams and drviers having to learn to work around them.

Hopefully Monaco will be a wet race throughout otherwise there may well be a stupid number of pitstops.

To be honest, before Pirelli entered F1, I kept seeing them on the latest BMWs and Mercs and going "Damn, I need to get those for my ride one day"...but now I look at those tyres and go "no thanks, I'll keep my trusty Falkens" :hehe:

Pirelli tyres falling apart at every race projects the same image as, say, Ferrari or Mercedes crashing at every race.
Who would drive a car that crashes that often? Who would buy a tyre that falls apart?

(We all know the race cars and road cars are different....same with the tyres, but the damage still sticks in the mind imo.)

You're right, it does project a bad image but, as you say, road tyres and F1 tyres are quite different.

It would be interesting to see if there was any real impact on Pirelli's road tyres sales and if Bridgestone's sales have dropped since they left F1.

Precisely why Bridgestone gave everyone the finger when asked to make tyres which fall away during a race.

Aye good point Hammer.
How Monaco is going to pan out with these tyres is anyones guess??

We could see many hit the wall unless we see multiple pit stops. Might make the race more interesting for once. :hehe:

Mate, the Pirelli tyres DO work as they've been asked.

It's Merc who are unfortunately proving incapable here. The other teams don't drop away like a fart in a storm after one corner, do they?

But all the teams need to manage the tyres to some extent.
Why bother? Pirelli need to make a tyre that actually lasts for a grand prix.

All this manage the front right, left rear is utter pish imo.

Every racer out there should be racing at 100% of the car, all the time.

It's only ever quali where they give it 100% And that's always been the case.
