It was interesting to hear Heikki reiterate mcLarens stance on team orders. When asked if the team had asked him to protect Lewis from Kimmi. he replied- No I made my own decisions in the race. I will defend from whoever is behind me. The only order I got from the team was to push as much as i could.

 It dosent take much to figure what AKR is implying. I agree, I mean its so obvious. Reporters only ask the question to see how the drivers respond.

Lewis and Heikki both drive the same Mclaren right? Why did Hamilton take off with a million second lead?

Maybe because Lewis is quicker with a heavy car than Heikki.
By your reasoning vegas why did Kimi lap faster than Felipe? Same car!
How about Alonso and Piquet, same car?
I think McLaren use team orders less than any team on the grid. They have from the time of Prost and Lauda, Prost and Senna, even Mika and David, all the way to Lewis and Alonso.
McLaren isn't like Ferrari, they let their drivers race. Ferrari always puts a slower driver in the 2nd car. Irvine, Barrichello, Massa.

Those drivers weren't necessarily slower, they just weren't quite as good with their racecraft as Schumacher was. It was more a case of the fact that they weren't allowed to beat Schumacher. It was even written into Irvine's contract. But you can't deny that they weren't fast drivers - Irvine took the '99 championship to the final round only to lose out to Mika Hakkinen. I'd say that that guy was fast enough.

Irvine, when he thought of racing instead of the ladies and stopped being Schumacher's tea-boy showed he was a decent driver. Sport is just as much about mental strength and determination than it is about ability.

As for McLaren, there are no team orders. Kovalainen simply didn't have the speed to catch Hamilton (he wasn't losing time to him either, in fact, he may have gained on him slightly), so had to watch his back.

I cannot remember the last time that Ferrari had the 2 fastest drivers in F1 on the same team. I don't think they'd allow a Senna-Prost pairing like McLaren. I don't think Ferrari would have even allowed a Schumacher-Hakkinen, Schui-Alonso or Schui-Kimi pairing. They seem to be more concerned with a number 1 driver and a slower number 2 than the other teams.

Interesting: the topic is team orders at McLaren and within a few posts the McLaren lambs turned it into a mudslinging against Ferrari
