Plus you don't know what goes on behind closed doors.

Do we want to know???

Definately not!

Well said Sergio! he is surprised by the criticism considering he has just moved to a new team with a car that has been all over the place, that has been designed for a duck and that is currently lamer than his old team. Its just Whitmarsh and Button playing the media to distract from the fall from front of grid to mid grid.

talking about Button

Don't worry Sergio, it will all be water under the bridge once McLaren get back to the sharp end of the grid. Maybe I'll even add you back on my fantasy team then.

"I find it quite amazing that after three weekends when I had two good weekends in terms of maximising the car potential, that after one bad weekend I received so many criticisms.

"But I think this is quite normal and usual for a team like McLaren."

"Two" good weekends? Sergio, you have NOT had "two" good weekends.

Relative to 'car potential' he hasn't done that bad.

Sorry but this guy seems to be happy to just show some pace now and then, and doesn't mind being beaten by his highly experienced, average teammate. This already shows his level of expectation of himself....non impressive.

I remember Kimi vividly repeating "I am sure I can beat Coulthard" when he joined McLaren and immediately started making DC sweat. The car wasn't great that year (2002) either. And I easily rate DC higher than Button when he was at his prime, so Kimi doing that was something special indeed. Right now Perez looks like another Kovaleinen AT BEST.

No where near as well as Jenson though. They've been miles apart so far.

No, I agree, dont get me wrong - but surely, we expect the much more experienced, no.1 driver, former world champion to be much better than Sergio to begin with?

I think we will have a much better idea, come the end of the season...?

Miles apart as one fifth place finish for Jenson? McLaren is struggling and Sergio is the easy scapegoat.

Whitmarsh himself said last year Sergio was not the finished article and that Mclaren were good at developing promising young drivers. It was stated clearly that he was to develop at Mclaren. Just like the other teams with fresh drivers like Lotus with Grosjean it is always understood that you cannot judge the young guy by the standards of the experienced settled guy you are balancing the team with.
Last year Button an experienced driver did much worse relative to Lewis at a time the car was not as supposedly bad as it has been now, if you are going to criticise your drivers in public why praise this guy in that situation and put down the guy in this situation?

Perez has not done badly at all for a newcomer to a team compared to his experienced teammate. He has been closer than Massa was to Alonso when he had car problems last year, closer than Grosjean now to Kimi, and the Mclaren is supposed to be all over the place.
Plus they gave him a silly strategy in China that killed his race, he wasnt bad before the guinea pig option tyre stint. All he has done wrong is a couple of errors when pushing a crap car

Its just not fair at all and like Lewis did I hope Sergio holds his head high and continues to do his best and ignores the horse poo. As the car gets better I am sure from what weve seen so far he can match Button when things are good for him.

Maybe we're just seeing Perez's true form. A competent mid-field runner but nothing more.

Makes you wonder what he considers to be a good weekend.

Well, not really, he considers weekends like his first two to be good.....
