Thing that I noticed immediately was that the Ferrari's didn't go too well. Nico beat both Ferrari's and both Mclarens. The Bulls and Lotus' were strong. But then it's all change this year with the tyres , so maybe can't read too much into it. Nice to see the stats from last year. Thanks Andrew

Ferrari may not have looked strong in Bahrain last year, but historically, the Scuderia have usually done well there. They've won more than any other team (2 for Felipe Massa, and 1 each for Michael Schumacher and Fernando Alonso).

To whom it may concern, yes there is something very wrong with the direction they took the tires.

ESPNF1: Pirelli has changed its compound choices for the Bahrain Grand Prix, switching the soft compound for the harder medium ahead of next weekend's race.

Previously Pirelli had intended to bring soft and hard tyres to the desert race but after the softs suffered high levels of degradation in China, the Italian tyre supplier has announced it is bringing its two hardest compound choices. As a result the teams will use the medium and hard compounds, with heat and dust on the circuit expected to have a big effect on tyre degradation.

"It's one of the most demanding tracks of the year for the tyres, mostly because of the high ambient and track temperatures," Pirelli motorsport director Paul Hembery said of Sakhir. "We expect about three stops per car, although we'll have to wait to get some running in on Friday before we can look at the data and make a more accurate prediction.

"One of the main challenges of racing in Bahrain is that the track evolution is very hard to predict, depending on how much sand is blown onto the circuit. From what we saw last year though, there will be plenty of scope for different race strategies, which can even allow drivers who have not qualified as well as they hoped to recover during the grand prix."

Pirelli's pre-race press release added: "The expected lifespan of the hard tyre, when it comes to wear, should be 15-17 laps, whereas the medium tyre should last for approximately 13 to 15 laps."

The revised tyre selection comes after complaints from some corners of the paddock about Pirelli's compound choices. However, after the Chinese Grand Prix Hembery said: "If we do make changes we will announce them after Bahrain and before Barcelona."

Is that map on the first page right, and there is only 1 DRS - or am I right in thinking thats just last years, and there will be a 2nd zone on the previous straight to where the one shown is?

I would feel going to this dangerous country that lack many human rights would be more justified if it actually produced interesting racing that people wanted to see.

I'd much rather see Turkey back on the calendar; one of Tilke's better tracks, Bahrain never really interested me as a circuit; it's another case of Bernie chasing the $$$ more than working towards the best interests of the sport and it's fans.

I think they bother because it's the only global focus they can get. Were they to protest at other times they'd just be shot and it would be a short protest.

You've said it for me so there is no need for me to say it. F1 in effect is his product and it's his job to sell it where it'll make the most for F1's investors. Turkey didn't offer as good a return as Bahrain does.

I get your general cut and thrust, but saying good racing would make it any better is like a slap in the face of those who lack the human rights you mentioned.

Formula One is not the one violating human rights in Bahrain.

I think it'll be a decent race. I love the desert (probably cuz I live in one myself) and last year's GP was pretty awesome and eventful
