I just had a visit from Nielsen TV Ratings; they want to install a box to monitor our TV watching habits; and they pay us for the privilege; but I am dubious; having third party boxes installed in our home transmitting data about us really concerns me.
Actually what's the pay they're offering? It's ridiculous how much weight they put on the Nielsen ratings. It's a ridiculously small percentage of the population and yet they base all of the ad revenue charges from that infinitesimally small amount of a sampling. I'd say go ahead and do it, unless you spend your life watching Real Housewives of Atlanta or some crap like that, you can only make TV better by rasing the standards.
The problem is that we don't have 'TV' per se; we stream all our entertainment through Netflix, Hulu etc; they can't track what you watch; just that you are streaming media, which means more ads on Hulu I'd guess. The initial payment is $100, then another $50 after 6 months, $100 after 12 months, $100 after 18 month and $150 after 24 months so a total of $500 over two years!
