Last year Button wasn't consistent. Lewis was consistent and fast. He was let down by other factors.

Last year JB was inconsistent, I will give you that, but normally he is fairly consistent in his driving, last year JB struggled with tyres for whatever reason while LH managed to switch his tyres on easily, not that I'm making excuses for JB poor performances.

Button has never been consistent over a season

Even in 2009, for the second half of the year couldnt find any grip and found the car undriveable, even tho Reubens was regularly qualifying on front row and winning races

When he is poor he is the poorest WC on the track, when he is good he is as good as any top half grid F1 driver given the same perfect conditions, his comfort zone is too narrow to sustain a challenge over a season against the types of Alonso.

Even in 2011 he wasn't good enough tho the car almost was, and that's why we had Paddy Lowe? release a press statement saying the drivers collectively couldn't get the best out of the car to beat Seb, before Mclaren withdrew the comment.

Fair enough comment; I love the last comment, Paddy Lowe suggests the drivers didn't get the most out of the car; the none driver criticising the drivers; maybe Lowe should have put his money where his mouth is and drive the car for a few races, show LH and JB how it's done! :hehe:

Seeing as this is the closest thing to a Button support thread that I can find I'll post this here.

Jenson Button says he wants to finish his Formula 1 career with McLaren

Jenson Button says he is loving life at McLaren so much he would like to finish his career with the Woking-based team.

The most experienced man on the grid signed a new deal with McLaren in October 2011 that is rumoured to keep him at the team until 2015.

By then Button will be 35 years old, but the Englishman has no plans to hang up his helmet any time soon.

"I feel very at home," the McLaren driver told The Guardian.

"I feel like I'd like to end my career here. I'm not saying that's going to happen soon. I don't see me leaving. There's no reason to. Some people decide to leave this team because they feel there's another challenge, or something's missing from their position. For me, there is still so much to achieve."

Button finished 2012 with victory at the Brazilian Grand Prix and he admits it was nice to end the season on a such a positive note.

"I was pretty happy at the end of last season," he added.

"A few things didn't work out for me, but in terms of driving and what I achieved, I was very, very happy. I ended the season on a high and really couldn't wait to get back out this year.

"When you win a grand prix you want the next one to come round straight away. So this whole winter I've been very positive. Obviously there are changes in the team. I like change. I think we all like change. It makes it exciting, a new challenge."

Following Lewis Hamilton's departure to Mercedes, Button will be expected to lead the team in 2013, even if publicly Martin Whitmarsh insists they have no number one driver, and the 33-year-old is revelling in his new role.

"It's unbelievably different," he said. "I'm really loving my job at the moment and I feel that whatever is thrown at me I should be able to control it."

Course he's loving it. He hasn't got Lewis as a team mate anymore, he's got an inexperienced relatively unproven young driver who's new to the team. Whats not to love?

Lol the joke's on Button when Perez starts outpacing him by the 3rd race weekend onwards, if not earlier.

"I feel that whatever is thrown at me I should be able to control it."

Even with no rear grip.

This is going to be awkward if Button wins the WDC this year.

I solemnly promise to never post a single meme ever again if it happens.

Well I've said it before , If McLaren produce a fast car that Button can handle he has the best chance to win the championship than he's ever likely to get or has had since 2009. Not saying he will......just best chance. Many things are in his favour.

Everything is in his favour at the moment, but I am sure McLaren will try to complicate it.

Button starts the season as clearest favourite I can remeber. His own team, the fastest car from last year shaped around his preferences for this year, an inexperienced respectful teammate, the whole team wrapped around him, the absence of the fastest driver on the grid.

And like Alonso he has the exerience and the trust by the team to take it by the scruff of the neck and demand what he wants and to stop them making mistakes. They have the fastest pitstops in history and after the errors of last year wuill have sorted out the issues like reliability and operational errors.

And I even heard that the car now has even greater development potential over the season than even RBR, and we know McLaren are by far the best for intra season development.

I cannot see how he wont deliver both titles.

Also the new pirelli's should help him overcome some of his qualifying difficulties when he can't turn the tyres on. That's one hell of a lot stacked in his favour. He should do well.
