I didnt know if this topic was already up(didn't see it) but anyone know details about NBC's coverage. I read they were showing all 3 practices, quali and the race. But which of their channels will be showing practice and quali? I hope its not just their online streaming. Anyone got any details?

Let's keep this thread in the General Forum for now until the details are clearer - it will be moved to the F1 & Motorsport Media section later. DD

I'd imagine it is going to be their main network feed, that appears on the typical single digital local channel line up.

At least it should be that way if they want to pay off that fat check they had to pay bernie for the rights to this stuff over speed.

I've been checking my local listings since Jan, nothing seems to be showing up yet.

On October 14, 2012, NBC Sports announced a four-year deal to televise the Formula One World Championship beginning in 2013, replacing Speed. Coverage of all but four races (which will air on NBC), along with practice and qualifying sessions, will air on NBC Sports Network.

Yep. NBC Sports Network is a new channel, and they seem to be trying to up their profile to compete with ESPN (ABC), with stuff like F1 (which has a dedicated following, like yours truly).

I think this is good, because after the Austin race, I watched closely the other sports cable shows for a few days (such as ESPN), and saw no mention of the Austin race. I know the NASCAR finale was the same weekend, but anyone who knows what is alleged to have happened between NASCAR and Tony George (INDY owner), might conclude that the lack of F1 coverage was not an accident (pressure?). So this deal might be a very good development, because F1 is going to have their work cut out for them, if they are going to go up against the NASCAR "monopoly," on race results coverage and the media saturation, over here.

I think we'll need more than one race here in the US, in addition to a GOOD American run team, or an American driver, to break the NASCAR monopoly unfortunately.

However, I'm holding out hope that NBC will do more with their rights than Speed did, which would be a step in the right direction. I'm glad they've essentially kept the Speed team, though Varsha's encyclopedic knowledge will be missed.

I agree with all of that, and I think the NY/NJ race will be a key, if it ever comes off, because all the national media is centered there, and we get a constant stream of stories involving themselves (Giants, Yankees, Knicks (Jets  )). So if it's in NY, it'll be a national story, plus, they don't particularly like NASCAR up there (they might love the ratings, but they don't love the culture, that's for sure).

I am cautiously optimistic about the future of F1 over here, because you can't do it better than Austin did, and that should be a model for the future. But NASCAR, and the advertisers and car sponsors, will be a tough nut to crack.

I was going to make another comment, but it escapes me right now, so  .

I'll be out of town then, but I set the DVR (it's on NBCSPHD on my cable box) - thanks for this one :)
