The Ferrari design team have done an exceptional job in the definition of the "coke bottle". Also look at the amount of just open space and how much of the floor that can be seen. They will have achieved this partly by shrinking and shaping things like the gearbox KERS etc, but, as others have noted, the sidepods, are higher than most other cars. They will pay a price in terms of COG, they gain a lot in terms of coke bottle and floor to get working. I don't think the sidepods on the F138 are in fact much (if at all) bigger than the smallest other ones, they are just high and, therefore give the illusion of being bigger.

Though the tip is higher i think the vanity cover accentuates it more

Looks like the pylons are attached to the vanity cover - clever touch.

Nico has ramped up the mileage today. 109 so far, and second fastest through just about all the session. Much more pleasing!

Rosberg 123 laps, Vettel doing nice times and mileage too. Glad to see Mercedes jumping back in the game. Button did only 45 laps, but is on track now.

so gary anderson had lunch with Sam Muichael from McLaren and said afterwards

They were pleased with Sergio Perez's first run on Wednesday - he was competitive and consistent, and Sam was admiring the narrow sidepods and more aggressive undercut on the Red Bull. I've been watching the McLaren on the track and it has more understeer than any other car, on a consistent basis. Sam said he wasn't worried - that it was caused by tyre graining on this aggressive track surface

well well, the Mclaren has more understeer than any other, now we know this will be a result of trying to pamper Button who hates any over steer. If the car is not perfectly balanced and leans towards understeer we are gonna be hearing a lot about Buttons poor balance a lot this season.

Sergio competitive and consistent.

Sounds like many of the cars are still outta wack over all. Glad to see Hamiliton got out of his crash ok, that could have been a very bad one. Testiment to saftey I suppose. I'm actually wondering how much faster the Maurissa will be with kers now.
