Cool pics.

I wouldn't have the balls to do that

It's changed times, in recent 'wars' it's news if one plane is shot down but back then so many were lost. I think the reason they were up there doing what they were had a big role in giving them the balls.

RV Jones did say in the book that the "Quality" of the German machines was a factor in them loosing the war. It would take twice as long to build the equivalent German tank to the British one.

As for having the balls to do stuff like that, from my own experience of how the military works it is not about being scared it is about not letting your mates/comrades down who are around you.

I think in those times it was more than just their mates/comrades they didn't want to let down, no disrespect to those in any armed forces now as it must be hard putting your life on the line when the politics aren't so clear cut.

Politics are never clear, everyone gets told what people want them to know. look at things like Wikileaks, and how the owner has been dealt with. everything gets twisted.

Do you think all the troops in WW2 thought they where doing the right thing? I understand defend your country is easy to understand, defend and take back someone else country is understandable if they are fighting with you. Hitler on the other hand had to motivate his troops and make them believe that it was right to try and invade the world! He was a very clever man (at the start) if you look into things like Mein Kampf. He set his stall out and got the whole country behind him. However like many leaders (including Churchill) as the war progressed the playing field changed and things started to go wrong. Hitler started to surround himself with "yes" men who where to scared to say that he was wrong. Churchill was an amazing war time leader, but when peace fell he was out of his comfort zone.

Propaganda or not, there was a direct threat unlike most of the wars since and I think that makes a difference to the mindset of the troops involved.
