Indeed they are. I'm not expecting miracles next year. I'm just going to sit back and enjoy watching Lewis do his usual magic in the machine he's given. No pressure this year, all will be a bonus. Unlike the last few which have been disappointing in the extreme, 2012 in particular.
But to say Mercedes will go backwards through the year in 2013 because its happened before is not looking at the facts before you.

Yes, but the end result was similar in every year Mercedes was in.

Would you have predicted Redbull to win 3 consecutive Championships at the end of 2008? I that that was the year they were beaten by their junior team and everyone were thinking they were becoming a joke.

So please stop acting like you're some Nostradamus, Merc has been operating by itself for 3 years, and it doesn't mean they are going to be static in their current position for eternity. Even if you'd like them to be.

2008 - 2009 big rule change...

Junior team had Vettel back then. ;)
Things could change, but I still think it's too early. Radical changes are set for 2014 and I think that's where all Mercedes hopes are.

So what. Merc didn't have Hamilton in the previous 3 years either. And if anyone can wring every tenth out of a bad car, its Hamilton or Alonso.

I wouldn't write off Merc completely for 2013. Not saying they'll win anything but they could be better than last season. 2014 is when it could get really interesting with the new engine reg's.

I thought there was a rule in this Forum about arguments that go round and round and round and round and round?

I think we've got to the following point:

1) Some people think Mercedes have done little to shout about in the last 3 years, and will continue on this course next year
2) Some people think with the staffing changes (both driver, and design team), and updated wind tunnel, Mercedes have a chance of pulling something special out of the bag
3) Some people wouldnt like to predict what will happen at Mercedes and are just going to sit back and await the excitement of the upcoming year.

Nothing new is being added to this argument, and no-one is changing their mind. Can we all move on, and leave the Fanboy insults behind.

Does anyone think DiResta will up his game - and if he doesn't, will he deserve a seat in F1 at the end of it...?

I think he's a journeyman who thinks he's a star. At best, he's the next Heidfeld or Button, nothing more.

He deserves an F1 seat though, but a midfield one.

Im thinking the same. I had high hopes when he first started, but he doesn't seem to be improving, and I think he has reached his potential. I dont think he will finish anywhere near top ten next year.

Comes across as really clued up on the TV interviews, but yes, as you say, needs to do a bit more talking on the track.

Guys, to close the Hamilton/Mercedes debate I will say something that we all have observed: Hamilton is driving much, much better when he is relaxed. McLaren had it's issues, that's why he was struggling in the team in the last seasons. He wasn't relaxed, car always had some glitches, team made wrong decisions, etc. But, as soon as he relaxed a bit, he won in USA. Car was fast, so was he. He comes to Mercedes for a new start, that's always refreshing. That's why I think both him and Rosberg will do even better than in last 2-3 seasons. But, the only concern remains the progress through the entire season, something Brawn didn't have in many years. OK, the sacrificed last season, that's understandable, but it also happened with Brawn GP. That's why I still think Mercedes will do it's big attack in 2014. And, if they create a monster engine again, they might really be in the title fight, with 2 young and great drivers. Let's wait and see what happens. :wavey::drink:

I don't rate Di Resta. He's been bigged up by his media buddies but nothing special.

Don't be so cruel. If he only drove in Red Bul...

Writing off di Resta would seem to be pretty stupid. A lot of team bosses have been impressed by him and his level of technical knowledge and feedback.......but what would they know(?)

Yes, so impressed that they don't show any interest in hiring him. Good analysis genius!

Exactly. He is no longer a rookie, and if he was a future WDC one of the top teams would of shown more interest.

Why discuss when you can be obnoxious(!)

He's contracted to Force India so it's pretty obvious that he wasn't going to be moving. Wait until his contract's up.
