I was leaning out the kitchen window at the back watching fireworks and listen to ships horns from the harbour.

Today in 1973, Last of the Summer Wine, the longest running sitcom in the world, premiered as an episode of the BBC's Comedy Playhouse.

Worth a mention seeing as it's awesome.

it went down hill when compo died

Yep. I find the later episodes a bit hit or miss at times but it certainly wasn't the same without Compo/Bill Owen.

Some of the later characters like Entwhistle, Alvin, Truly and Billy saved it from obscurity. Still funny but in a different way.

there is only so many ways that an elderly man can fall into a bath and slide down a hill while sat in it.

True. Very few did it better than Compo.

So how many of us want to live out our retirement like the bloke in LOTSW?

It is like my life now, just a bit younger and less falling in the bath.
