I read it on another forum in a comment by someone who seems to be usualy on the money.

Force India also rumoured to be switching to Renault.

Toro Rosso, Force India to change engines for 2014 - report

Toro Rosso will switch to Renault power for the start of F1's new V6 engine era in 2014. That is the claim of the authoritative German specialist publication Auto Motor und Sport, reporting that the Red Bull-owned team will end its long association with supplier Ferrari after the V8 era concludes late next year.

Red Bull Racing, the energy drink's premier F1 team, is Renault's 'works' partner, running major branding of Renault partner Nissan's luxury arm Infiniti.

And also according to Auto Motor und Sport, "there are rumours Force India will in 2014 change from Mercedes to Ferrari engines".

The report by journalist Michael Schmidt said the Silverstone based team's denials so far have "not been energetic enough to make you believe them".

Reportedly, the reason for Toro Rosso and Force India's decisions could be price, with engine costs rising from about EUR 8 million at present to in some cases over EUR 20m in 2014.

But in Toro Rosso's case, there is probably a more practical consideration, with parent team Red Bull then able to supply its Faenza based satellite with Renault-compatible gearboxes, KERS and hydraulics from 2014.

I still don't get where the price of the engines comes in. Basically they're suggesting that Mercedes and Ferrari engines are going to be too expensive for small teams, so Toro Rosso goes with the presumably cheaper Renault engine (though there synergies with Red Bull are probably more important). But why would FI go from presumably expensive Mercedes engines to presumably expensive Ferrari engines?

Are Force India still in a technical partnership with McLaren? Could be that they are looking to get in with Ferrari or maybe they feel that Ferrari will be a better option than Mercedes for the new engine reg's in 2014.

Torro Rosso going with the same engine as Red bull makes a lot of sense but given that Renault engined cars have now won 3 championships on the trot surely they will be able to charge more for their engines?

I'd imagine that Toro Rosso, uh, Red Bull having their hands on an engine of a direct competitor, i.e., Ferrari, could yield valuable information, so I don't really understand why the switch.

A couple generations behind Momma dear, but still insightful.

If there was actually anything significant for Red Bull to gain from knowing the Ferrari engine specs though, Ferrari would immediately cancel any deal with STR, you can be sure of that.

It's gonna be pretty damn close spec given the engine freeze.

All Ferrari would have to do is give TR dodgy engine maps

I'm fairly certain all engines are pretty well know to all teams since the engine freeze.

Word on the street is that Torro Rosso are switching to Renault engines for 2014.

And which street would that be?

Lombard.

'Buemi misses out on Force India seat'

Sébastien Buemi is no longer in the running for the vacant Force India seat, according to Swiss newspaper Blick. The 24-year-old's former Toro Rosso team-mate, Jaime Alguersuari, is also believed to have missed out on a drive at the Silverstone-based squad, with Adrian Sutil and Jules Bianchi the two remaining candidates.

Force India and Caterham are the only teams yet to confirm their complete line-ups for the upcoming campaign, with a number of drivers left on the sidelines at the end of 2012. Buemi and Alguersuari were both hopeful over their chances of claiming a place alongside Paul di Resta, but this now appears to be out of the question.

Sutil, who drove for Force India and its predecessors from 2006 to 2011, has been attempting to return to Formula 1 after a year out of the sport. However, Formula Renault 3.5 runner-up Bianchi is said to be closer to a deal with his ties to Ferrari. The famous Italian marque is keen for its well-rated protégé to break into the sport and could offer engines to Force India for the 2014 season as part of an agreement.

Di Resta, who has contested two seasons with Force India to date, is almost certain to retain his seat for 2013. Throughout 2012, Team Principal Vijay Mallya continually expressed his desire to reveal the outfit's drivers in one announcement.
