America isn't entirely alone in that.
But I think it's that way because it's very misunderstood. Because it's associated with communism, and the assumption is that there is no democratic process in a socialist society. I watched this video this morning, and it's pretty damned clear to see where we've gone very wrong as a society. Again, there's that damned soci prefix!

Winston Churchill is loosely credited for saying "Democracy is the worst form of government except for all those others that have been tried." Whether he actually said it or not, it's a pretty true statement, but what most people miss is that Democracy isn't a form of governance, it's simply a way to determine or choose government leaders. The types of government that pretty much evolved on their own and can be observed in nature are socialism, capitalism and communism. Which is what brings me back to the video, that at its core, socialism is what we as primates have settled upon.
