if you read the comments to the video, the reason the videos are made is because insurance companies lower the cost of insurance in Russia if you record what you do. I like that idea.

Progressive Insurance stateside offers something similar, a big brother gizmo that records your driving style, etc., in return for a better rate.

Our work vehicles have now just been fitted with a gizmo with traffic lights on it. Most of the lads get in a grump if they can not get it to turn red on a trip.

I hear lots of people in parts of Europe have dash cams because of the prevalence of scamsters pretending to be run over(if on foot) or hit in the back(if in a car). There are Youtube videos showing this, and the embarassment when shown the camera. One shows a female driver getting out and beating the crap out of a dude that tried to fake getting hit.
Anywayz, I do watch a lot of car crash compilations on Youtube, and I notice that a good portion of those cameras appear to be on touring busses, as I guess by the windshields. Probably standard issue there. I could serve several purposes.
I got one for myself, a cheap ebay one, just in case anything exciting happens.

Having taken a UK driving test and US driving test; I can say that a driving test in the US; at least Kansas is so easy it's almost a joke; and the standard of driving here in Kansas is atrocious, particularly merging into traffic; a number of times I have seen drivers actually stop at the end of an on-ramp; why would you stop? speed up and merge into traffic! Many have poor spacial awareness; pulling out onto a main street when there clearly isn't enough space and completely fail to accelerate; causing traffic already on the main road to take avoiding action.

Don't even get me started on drivers not adjusting their driving style to suit the road conditions.
