There's not a lot of Alonso supporting going on in the support thread.

Well that's the norm round here for certain board members....

I like Alonso. I have no problem with Vettel or Hamilton but there's an unexplainable thing in my mind that simply has me not rooting for Vettel or Hamilton. So I wanted to see Alonso get the title. I don't have any crazy thing for him it's just how my mind went. For some reason I even want to see Webber get more points than Vettel. It would be great to see Webber get the title. If I'm honest I might have to say Alonso is my favourite driver, but it's not a conscious choice. Maybe I see Vettel as a right place at the right time beneficiary. I even like to see Button succeed, even though I know consciously that he's seen by most in here as a lesser talent who won a title only because his car(or its diffuser) was way above the league for half a season(something I don't disagree with). I think even Barricello outdid Button in the last half of that season.

Alonso is my second favorite driver, I think he's massively developed his driving over the last few years by struggling and has learned to compensate for a lack of speed. This is strictly from the perspective of the guy as a driver. I hope this year was an indication of Lewis showing similar signs especially mid season.

Alonso will never be in my favourite list, but he drove better than Vettel this year for sure. Given the equipment, to come within 2 points of a dominant 2nd half of the season by Redbull is something special indeed. But it really is an example of how driver and team maximized every ounce of what the car was capable of, so it was exemplary teamwork from their part. Except for that Austin gearbox debacle of course.

I guess Nando was uber lucky none of the team bosses are anywhere near as smart as mnmracer in spotting Nando's obvious run of luck this year

Fernando Alonso has been voted as the driver of the year by Formula 1's team bosses in AUTOSPORT's annual team principals' top ten poll.

The Ferrari driver, who lost out on the world championship by just three points to Sebastian Vettel, dominated the voting this year.



AUTOSPORT asked each of F1's current team principals to pick their top ten drivers for the season, with points being awarded under the current scoring system of 25-18-15-12-10-8-6-4-2-1

The individual votes are kept secret so team bosses can give a more honest appraisal of their views.

Alonso was a clear winner this year, securing the biggest winning margin in the five years since AUTOSPORT began the top ten.

He was voted as best driver by eight of the 12 team principals. His score of 269 points gave him a 71-point margin over last year's top driver Sebastian Vettel.

It is the second time in the five years that the team principals' top ten has been running that Alonso has taken the number one spot.

He was voted as top driver in 2010, after also losing out on the championship in the final round.

Lewis Hamilton may have endured his frustrations on track with McLaren this season, but his efforts behind the wheel were acknowledged as he beat the returning Kimi Raikkonen for third place overall.

Nico Hulkenberg's form at Force India was also recognised on his F1 comeback, as he was voted as the seventh best driver by the teams.

He looked like a mere shadow of Massa in Brazil. Not the kind of race you expect from someone who's fighting for the championship.
